What was the promise???
[edit]Are there experienced editors watching over this article in order to avoid vandalism or unhelpful edits? It seems not, because the current version mentions a statement/promise made by James Baker, but it isn't stated what this promise was! Apparently this crucially important information was removed in a recent edit, resulting in an article that isn't properly encyclopedic and doesn't even make sense. Please fix promptly!!!!! 01:05, 8 September 2023 (UTC) 173.88.246.138 (talk) 01:05, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Is this the quote from Baker (which was apparently uttered entirely hypothetically)?:
- What if you let your part of Germany go, and we agree that NATO will not move one inch eastward?

additional information
[edit]The additional information added today, Jan 1 2025, was taken from my edits in the German version. If necessary, the history will be imported, too. Gabel1960 (talk) 11:39, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
