[edit]Hello, I'm new to Wikipedia and I was wondering how I could translate this article into German? (As you probably know) I'm Jason 315 so if you could leave me a comment on how to, that would be great. Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jason 315 (talk • contribs) 04:04, August 20, 2007 (UTC).
Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to [[:{{{1}}}]]. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --C.lettingaAV 16:33, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Why are references to Mr. John Holmes, who was a resident of Pataskala in the 1950's and early 1960's, repeatedly deleted from this page? From what I can see the information posted is done "factually" and without pornographic or objectionable content. In fact there is indeed a Wikipedia page devoted to Holmes and it references this Pataskala page.
Wikipedia is supposed to be a knowledge base. Mr. Holmes is indeed a famous former Pataskala resident, in fact Pataskala was mentioned in the movie Wonderland which was a story about Holmes. He was, after all, a major presence in the film industry, especially in the mid 1970's. Reporting that he was a Pataskala native does not endorse his lifestyle or line of business. I don't understand why the info has to be purged over and over. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 14:34, December 29, 2006 (talk • contribs) 172.149.22.105
- Fine. Where's the proof to back up your statement about John Holmes being a resident? That's why the John Holmes item keeps coming out (or at least why I'm pulling it out). And by the way, if you take a look, "Johnny Wadd" is only a redirect to "John Holmes (actor)". I believe you want to build the text like this: [[John Holmes (actor)|John Holmes]] Tabercil 21:08, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Tabercil: There is an award-winning documentary film that was done in 1998, entitled "Wadd: The Life and Times of John C. Holmes". ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0207195/ ) It is not a pornographic movie either. In it, John's first wife, Sharon Gebenini Holmes, recounts how John was born in Ashville Ohio, but moved to Pataskala at a very young age and grew up there. Sharon said that John loved growing up in the country, going fishing and frogging and whatnot. She further went on to say that in 1960 (at the age of 16), John dropped out of school to join the United States Army, because his stepfather was physically abusive to him. He spent most of his Army time in Germany, serving in the Signal Corps. As soon as he returned to the United States in 1964, he told his mother he wanted to go to California and the rest is history. Note that his family's surname in Pataskala was NOT Holmes, as his mother had remarried. However I will not mention the family's name, out of respect for them as I believe that his mother (and perhaps step father) still reside in or near Pataskala. I am certain that any Pataskala resident in their early 60's who grew up in Pataskala will attest to the fact that John grew up in Pataskala, as he was a household name during his heyday.
As to the Wikipedia page for John Holmes, point well taken. The "formal" URL is as you have indicated; there is an alternate (redirect) URL which is as I had shown too.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.144.18.93 (talk • contribs) 18:31, December 29, 2006 (UTC{{{3}}})
- Okay, if you're going to add the information about John Holmes to the page, then please put a reference to the documentary along with it. Tabercil 01:58, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the editing and reference tips, Tabercil. I have added a bullet for Holmes under "Famous Residents" and include a Wikipedia link to Holmes' Wiki page as you've recommended. Also I include as a "reference" the documentary film about Holmes. (I had to add a "References" section to this page to be able to have the reference actually show up on it in "footnote style". I hope this does not bother anybody).
