Title
[edit]This page should be renamed to Patna University instead of redirecting from Patna University to this. The school's website only refers to themselves at Patna University. FireAllianceNX (talk) 15:58, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
Request for guidance
[edit]Today I added the name of Shamshad Hussain as a notable alumni of Patna university. I am searching for the reference to include his name even under notable faculty. However I am facing one problem that as there is no article on him on wiki, as a link this name takes one to a Shamshad Hussain who is a different person. What do I do? arunbandana 07:41, 4 September 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arunbandana (talk • contribs)
- Read the guideline about academic notability, WP:PROF. If he is notable per this guideline, create an article about him, Shamshad Hussain (psychologist). If not, remove him from the list as only notable alumni/faculty should be added.--Muhandes (talk) 07:51, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
- I went ahead and removed him from the alumni list since notability wasn't demonstrated. See WP:AUTHOR for the notability requirements from authors if you rather use that guideline. A single book is far from being enough. --Muhandes (talk) 07:58, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
You are quite ahead in deleting the stuff that You think is suitable for deletion. Before deleting You must be sure that he is not notable. How are sure that he has written only one book? Sometimes it is disgusting working on this forum. My interest here is just to add to the existing knowledge and nothing else. And that also in the spare time. arunbandana 08:27, 4 September 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arunbandana (talk • contribs)
- I never said they are not notable. I said notability wasn't demonstrated, which is a completely different thing. The burden of showing notability is on the person adding. This is best done by creating an article. --Muhandes (talk) 08:44, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Use of honorific
[edit]This is to draw the attention of all concerned here that the honorific in the case of sri krishna sinha has become an integral part of his name. My this statement should be verified by independent sources. Arunbandana (talk • contribs) 16:22, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- If that is so then you need to gain consensus to change the title of the article relating to that person. I think you will struggle to do so, but feel free to try. Should the consensus be obtained then by all means adjust the entry here. Until then, the link here should reflect the title currently used for that article. - Sitush (talk) 16:26, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
With all humility I would like to draw your attention first to the article that I have used as a reference in this case. You would observe that the reporter invariably uses Sri before his name whereas in the case of even the President Patil or Prime Minister Nehru the same is not true. All other references should indicate the same. I am also used to listening to this honorific with his name since childhood.
This is a unique case. By the way an honorific is a part of my registered name too.
I agree with you that we should do the same with the title of the article on him.
Let us also resolve this issue by remaining completely cool. If my point is proved wrong, I would be ready to accept your point of view. I do not believe at any point of time that whatever I know is the final word in the world. Arunbandana (talk • contribs) 18:29, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- I think that this issue may have been discussed at WT:INB fairly recently. It has certainly been discussed somewhere. What you use as your username is entirely up to you (within reason!) and certainly using Sri in that context is not an issue. I can think of only a very few articles where the honorific might be justified: one of those is Sree Narayana Guru, although I rather think that has been challenged in the past also. In any event, sort it out on the relevant article's talk page first, please. Our lists, whether standalone or embedded in an article, should agree with the main article's title. - Sitush (talk) 18:50, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- As an example of what you are up against, please see the discussion at Talk:Sri Sri Ravi Shankar#Requested move 3. The chances are extremely high that the same "no consensus" result will materialise if you begin a discussion on the article talk page. But feel free to try, as I said earlier. - Sitush (talk) 19:00, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
If you agree that it is possible to accept honorifics in a few cases, then how are you sure we can't use one here? I have given one reliable reference. I can give many more such references. Let us go only by facts and reliable sources, not by assumptions and opinions. Arunbandana (talk • contribs) 19:36, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- I did not say that I agree, but rather that there might be some justification. I did say that you should take the naming issue to the appropriate article talk page, ie: the biography page. Supply your arguments and references there if you think that the article title should be changed. If you succeed in that then by all means adjust the name in the list here. That is the end of this discussion as far as I am concerned. - Sitush (talk) 19:47, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Promotional editing about "Patna University Incubation Hub"
[edit]I have reverted the edit again. The given sources don't mention such a "hub" or Ranjan Mistry, a local startup businessman and allegedly the main proponent of this concept. Unless independent reliable sources cover such an initiative and verify the various claims, these details should not be included - Wikipedia is no PR platform to promote new ideas and startups (see also Draft:CampusVarta about Mistry's startup, based on self-written articles and interviews).
