I'm taking this.
General comments
[edit]- My first impression is that the lead is a bit too long. Plus initially I was confused what you actually mean by "Selena's sound".
- Revised. – jona ✉ 22:14, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Some bits could be further condensed to focus more on the singer himself. Like Widely considered to be Selena's signature song and her "trademark", "Como la Flor" has become part of the Texas musical cannon. could be cut.
- Consended. – jona ✉ 22:14, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- In fact that's perhaps the problem with the lead: it seems to be a blow-by-blow account of the songs he composed and how each are significant, rather than about his life.
- I have condensed the song's info. – jona ✉ 22:14, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- I recommend restructuring the lead based on Lady Gaga's article.
- However, I say there's quite some potential in the content, most of which are attributed to local newspapers. I might give the body a thorough lookthrough.
1981 to 1988

- but rather a serendipitous discovery – is this something said by the singer himself? Would attribute and write in quotes
- It was rephrased; he stated that his singing abilities came as a surprise to him. – jona ✉ 22:14, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- So did he use the word "serendipitous" himself? I find the use of the word a bit too advanced tbh and thought it's something he said. Might opt for a simpler term.--ZKang123 (talk) 13:15, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

- Astudillo's input on songwriting initially occurred with "Besitos", which he co-wrote with A. B. who regarded as a turning point for the band as it steered them towards exploring the cumbia genre in future releases. – I have some trouble understanding this sentence. Do you mean something like:
Astudillo first contributed to songwriting with "Besitos," a track he co-wrote with A.B. Quintanilla. This song marked a significant turning point for the band as it encouraged them to delve deeper into the cumbia genre in subsequent releases.
- Done – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Astudillo's collaboration with A. B. steered the band towards a more danceable style infused with cumbia influences. – might say "guided the band" instead of "steered the band".

- Astudillo was removed from the studio after an unsuccessful session, he expressed his disappointment at not meeting the desired range. – use a semicolon

[edit]- Also before we go on, are you keeping song names in quotes while italicizing album names?
- Yes =) – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- In 2018, Rolling Stone named "Como la Flor" one of the best Latin pop songs. – It's a bit out of place here. Seems more relevant about the song than his career.
- Has been removed. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
1993–94
[edit]- Astudillo received the nomination for Single of the Year for "Un Hombre Busca Una Mujer" as well as Male Vocalist of the Year at the 1993 Tejano Music Awards,[54] while Astudillo and Selena were nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year for "Siempre Estoy Pensando en Ti" – split the second half of the sentence away.

- Despite claims of relying on Selena's fame – who made the claims?
- According to the article, the editor doesn't name the critics, but from what I've gathered, it seems that members of the Tejano music community may have suggested it. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

- The station received over 150 submissions, with the winner winning a dinner date with Astudillo – so what's the winning name?
- Removed. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- At the Tejano Music Awards, Astudillo and A. B. continued to be snubbed from receiving Songwriter of the Year awards, a move criticized by Cabrera, who found them responsible for Selena's works – more clarity needed. So Cabrera criticised Astudillo and AB being snubbed, and attributing them for Selena's works?
- Yes, revised. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- No issues for 1995 prose
1996

1997
[edit]- Despite inconveniences such as early morning filming schedules as a result of cutting his hair – why are filming schedules in the morning because of his short hair?
- The movie's producers aimed to recreate events from Selena's lifetime, during which Astudillo had long hair. This required an extended filming schedule for Astudillo. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Would also clarify if it's stated in sources.
- The previous subsection mentioned him cutting his hair. Wouldn't this suffice as evidence of a change in appearance following Selena's death, especially now that he is participating in a biopic about her, where he would need to resemble how he appeared during her lifetime? Or does this still lack clarity and require further explanation? – jona ✉ 21:57, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

- due to excessively restrictive terms – what sort of terms, for example?
- Those terms included the rights to the musicians' vocal performances that night for the sole purpose of commercial use such as home video release and CD distribution without additional pay to the respective artists or their label. This also contradicted their agreement with their label as it allowed the awards organization to profit off them and disinherited the label and the artist from the profits. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- producers issued ultimatums and also what ultimatums? That they get off the stage? Or go ahead and perform?
- The ultimatums presented were that they would not perform that night. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

1998–2000
[edit]- In September 1998, Astudillo released his lead single, "¿Dónde Estás Amor?" ... On April 20, 1999, ¿Dónde Estás Amor? was released I suppose one is the album and the other the song?
- Yes, the September 1998 release is the song, while the April 1999 date is the release of the album. – jona ✉ 18:14, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Would make a further clarification for the latter that it's the album. Does the album also include the former song too?
- The sentence does state that it is "the lead single" and the album is italicized. – jona ✉ 21:57, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

Finding information became increasingly difficult, especially after the genre's downturn–I couldn't even find the name of the new album (as you highlighted below). Spot checks
[edit]Most are on Newspapers.com and behind a paywall, or offline and on Google books. I will assume good faith and inspect the sources which I have access to. Sources generally rely on local newspapers, which I say is reliable given coverage of this person.
- I find the heavy use of sfn a bit odd; usually they would be used for books/reports that would be cited across the article. But most of the formatting is alright.
- It's more of a personal preference. – jona ✉ 21:57, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

- I wonder if for the more recent articles, are you able to provide links directly to the local news websites or only via Newspaper.com? It will help further in the source review.--ZKang123 (talk) 09:02, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
