  • DYK is good, may be minor scope of improvement to get feeling of what source says ".. He teaches two categories of classes. .. One is a ‘goshti gayana’ (group singing) class, where 99 per cent of the students are women. .. Every three months, he and his students gather at a kalabhavan he has built near IIMB to spend time together and sing ‘goshti gayana’. “I’ve been doing this since 1984 and have taught thousands of women,” .."
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Quite an interesting article. An alt DYK also would be possible with 'walking tour singing all the way 16 kilometres'. Since CCBY rendition seem to be available. If policy allow adding external link to composition would be interesting and also see if a pic can be added while singing from same CCBY. Anyways other than QPQ, DYK seems sort of ready. Bookku (talk) 10:38, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No QPQ, so this is not ready. I have not looked at the other criteria. CMD (talk) 16:11, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bookku: Which publication are you referring to as CCBY? I've wikilinked the group singing to Sing-along in the hook — DaxServer (t · m · c) 16:26, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DaxServer: I am talking about same YouTube you took image from, I am suggesting his image showing his hand movement while singing or clip itself if technically possible to include in DYK. Bookku (talk) 16:43, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bookku: Downloading YouTube videos seem to be a bit of hassle. Do you have experience with it? Also, QPQ done (also Chipmunkdavis) — DaxServer (t · m · c) 10:32, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No I do not have experience. Hearing Carnatic music can be quite different experience, may be you can try requesting help @ Commons help desk if any one would help their. Bookku (talk) 12:35, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'm off now, I'll do that tomorrow — DaxServer (t · m · c) 12:44, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bookku: After some struggle, I was able to upload the video and added to the article :) — DaxServer (t · m · c) 12:44, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Cielquiparle I'm not able to resolve these, so I've removed them for now — DaxServer (t · m · c) 15:02, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Re-approving, as QPQ has now been completed and a few terms requiring clarification have been removed. (Understand there is an ongoing discussion relevant to future GA submission on the article Talk page, but that shouldn't be a blocker for DYK, as the article meets the criteria otherwise.) "Clarification needed" tags

[edit]

@DaxServer As per this comment of yours, while creating the article it seems that you yourself tagged few terminologies related to nuances used in Carnatic music which you may be unaware of. What I suggest is you get in touch with contributing editors of other Carnatic music related articles. I hope that would help resolve issues raised @ DyK more easily. If this does not succeed then some of those mentions can be removed temporarily un til you get further information.

Your clarification tags from the article (The clarifications sought by you are mentioned in bracket for easier discussion):

  • "he organizes free teaching classes in Navavaranam[clarification needed] at some of his gatherings in Bangalore" (Explain this)

* Whether linking the term to article "Kamalamba Navavarna Kritis" or increasing scope of Kamalamba Navavarna Kritis by renaming to just Navavarna Kritis would help?

@Bookku I'm not able to resolve these, so I've removed them temporarily. — DaxServer (t · m · c) 15:01, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for the delayed response, I was asked to offer technical comments on the above issue by @Bookku.

  1. "he organizes free teaching classes in Navavaranam at some of his gatherings in Bangalore" - here Navavaranam means the Kamalamba Navavarna Kritis (compositions of Muthuswami Dikshitar).
  2. "Whether linking the term to article "Kamalamba Navavarna Kritis" or increasing scope of Kamalamba Navavarna Kritis by renaming to just Navavarna Kritis would help?" -- It is best to link it to the Kamalamba Navavarna Kritis, while there are other navavarana kritis, they are not meant here.
  3. "and composed 72 mela raga[clarification needed] (What are these?)" - it means he composed songs in the 72 Melakarta ragas.
  4. The book introduces Melakarta,[clarification needed] (Is this Asampurna Melakarta or Melakarta?) -- Here the reference is to Melakarta.
