Why are the RFSUs considered unique if the Canadian Rangers perform the same task, only in the north of Canada, which by the way covers much more area than the RFSUs have to cover?--99.250.177.248 (talk) 00:52, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Northern Australia & Northern Canada are both very large areas with relatively small populations & a harsh environment. Both the RFSU's & Canadian Rangers have relatively large indiginious memberships & being reservists, their memberships are locals bringing local knowledge & relationships. However the RFSUs are much more like ordinary army recon units & are trained & armed as such. They often don't want to be seen & are quite capable of independant military action if required. The Canadian Ranges with their bright red shirts & bolt action rifles are designed more to be seen, to patrol in areas few others can & to support general army units when they operate in the area. In some ways the Rangers are more like the armed native (& non native) guides of colonial days but with a more formal framework. 1.149.16.229 (talk) 14:06, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Proposed Merger
[edit]I propose the contents of the Regional Force Surveillance Units page should be merged into the page Regional Force Surveillance Group. The content is clearly the same. I can't see a use for two separate articles. --TinTin (talk) 01:40, 21 November 2018 (UTC) Discussion in Talk:Regional Force Surveillance Group --TinTin (talk) 23:40, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
