Proposed edits to the Scout Motors Intro Section

[edit]

I would like to propose the following edits to the Scout Motors introductory section.

Here is the current text:

Scout Motors Inc. is an American automotive company. It is owned by German manufacturer Volkswagen Group, which obtained the Scout brand after acquiring American truck manufacturer International Motors (previously Navistar) in 2021.

Scout Motors was established in May 2022 to produce off-road capable electric vehicles.[2] It is an entirely US-based operation and acts as an independent company, managed separately from Volkswagen with its own executive team.[3][4] The headquarters is located in Tysons, Virginia.[1][5]

Proposed changes:

Scout Motors Inc. is an American automotive startup company. Founded in 2022, it is backed by German manufacturer Volkswagen AG and a member of the Volkswagen Group companies. Volkswagen AG obtained the Scout brand after acquiring American truck manufacturer Navistar International in 2021.

Scout Motors was established to produce off-road capable electric vehicles.[2] It is a U.S.-based operation and independent company, managed separately from Volkswagen AG with its own executive team and board members.[3][4] The company does not have an official headquarters, but has operations located in South Carolina, Michigan, Virginia, and California.[1][5]

Two main changes being changing the word "owned" to "backed", as well as not listing an official HQ.

Here is an article that refers to the relationship as Volkswagen "backing" Scout versus owning: https://www.cnbc.com/2024/10/24/volkswagen-scout-motors-ev-hybrids.html#:~:text=%E2%80%94%20Volkswagen%20%2Dbacked%20Scout%20Motors%20revealed,in%20addition%20to%20EV%20models.

Scout Motors does not officially list Tysons as a HQ location, just an office via their career page: https://www.scoutmotors.com/careers JackScoutMotors (talk) 15:14, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed edits and additions to the Scout Motors History Section

[edit]

I would like to propose the following edits and additions to the Scout Motors History section.

Current text:

The Scout marque is named after the off-road vehicle International Scout, produced from 1961 to 1980. Volkswagen has owned the Scout trademark since 2020 through its American truck subsidiary Navistar International.[6][7]

On May 11, 2022, Volkswagen AG announced the creation of a new brand, Scout, dedicated to electric vehicles, designed, developed, manufactured and marketed in the United States.[8][9] Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen USA, became the first CEO of Scout Motors.[10]

On October 24, 2024, Scout declared it will sell directly to customers and service vehicles itself, following the model adopted by competitors Tesla, Rivian and Polestar, rather than use the Volkswagen dealer network. The National Automobile Dealers Association responded that it would challenge this decision using legal and political means, and filed a lawsuit on February 3, 2025, alleging violations of state law.[11][12][13]

Proposed changes:

The Scout brand was conceptualized in 1959 by International Harvester. Production on the first Scout vehicles began in December 1960, with the first Scout sold as a 1961 model year called the Scout 80. The off-road, “8-day-a-week" (source) International Scout vehicles, were produced from 1961 to 1980. [6][7]

In September 2021, a report by MotorTrend (source) revealed that Volkswagen AG may look to revive the Scout nameplate as a potential competitor to the Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4Runner, and then newly revived Ford Bronco. [20] On May 11, 2022, Volkswagen AG approved plans to form a new, independent company dedicated to designing, developing, manufacturing, and marketing electric vehicles in the United States. On September 1, 2022,[8][9] Scott Keogh, previously President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America Inc., became the first CEO of Scout Motors, Inc. (source) [3][10]

On October 24, 2024, Scout Motors debuted two new vehicle concepts: the Scout® Traveler™ SUV and Scout® Terra™ truck during its national reveal event just outside Nashville, Tennessee. (source) The event brought together Scout enthusiasts, automotive historians, and industry and media professionals. Attendees were greeted by a display of International Harvest Scout vehicles, including the first and last production Scout vehicles.

During the event, Scout Motors CEO Scott Keogh presented the company’s vision for the brand’s future, focusing on its legacy of exploration and community. The event included the unveiling of the new Scout Traveler™ SUV and Scout Terra™ truck concepts and the announcement of a “Harvester™” range extended concept that uses a small gasoline engine for generating usable electricity in the vehicle. (source)

Scout Motors also announced it will sell directly to customers and service vehicles itself, following the model adopted by competitors Tesla, Rivian and Polestar, rather than use a franchise dealer network. As Scout Motors does not, and has never had, franchise dealers, it is not bound by the franchise dealer system and can maintain a direct, customer-centric relationship with Scout vehicle owners.  The National Automobile Dealers Association responded that it would challenge this decision using legal and political means.[11][12]

On November 12, 2024, Scout Motors announced it would utilize a new zonal architecture built by the Volkswagen Group-Rivian joint venture (Rivian and VW Group Technology, LLC) in their vehicles to complement their Scout Community UX™, i.e. interface system. [27] source

In January 2025, Scout Motors made its first major trade show appearance at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. JackScoutMotors (talk) 20:07, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The overall design resembles modernized versions of International Scout vehicles.
