I just noticed two IP addresses trying to portray South Vietnam as not a country but just an American puppet government. Using different IP addresses is common, it's the same for me. However, it should be noted to be objective and neutral on Wikipedia, this is not a place for propaganda or expressing personal opinions. I'm talking about those IP addresses trying to sabotage this article. I know this is a very sensitive political article for Vietnamese people, it's normal for someone from Vietnam to sabotage it like this. 42.118.49.115 (talk) 11:59, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Saying that north Vietnam was a communist pawn and not an anticolonial rebellion is equally propagandizing as the suggestion that south Vietnam wasn’t a country. Currently this article is US propaganda instead of Communist propaganda. A more balanced and nuanced version that shares perspectives from people on both sides of the war is needed. CIA.gov is not a credible source unless you’re looking at declassified documents—the US committed war crimes in Vietnam and it’s in our foreign policy interests to deny this and portray the conflict as a fight for justice rather than a complicated geopolitical power struggle. It’s in desperate need of an update by a competent, unbiased historian.struggle. 216.126.34.108 (talk) 14:40, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This page is about South Vietnam, not the military history of history of South Vietnam. While South Vietnam was at war for most of its existence, the page shouldn't include details of small battles or otherwise trivial events like this: [1]. Mztourist (talk) 09:34, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, according to the article, South Vietnam was legally "bound" by the 1954 Geneva agreement because it was part of the French Union, which is legally WRONG. Although the State of Vietnam (and later the Republic of Vietnam for a time) was a member of the French Union, it was recognized by France as a fully independent member within the French Union on 4 June 1954. Article 2 of the independence treaty that day clearly stated: "Vietnam replaces France in all rights and obligations arising from international treaties or conventions concluded by France on behalf of or in the name of the State of Vietnam or from all other treaties and conventions signed by France on behalf of French Indochina to the extent these acts concern Vietnam." According to article 4 of the agreement, it entered into force on the date of signing. Full text of independence treaty in French: https://mjp.univ-perp.fr/constit/vn1954.htm. Information about the State of Vietnam gaining full autonomy on 4 June 1954 needs to be included in the article, otherwise readers will misunderstand that the US and South Vietnam did not comply with the Geneva Accords as communist propaganda. 2402:800:F2BA:57BC:D8BE:ECBA:DFBE:9A4A (talk) 19:22, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
