Lead
- I'm concerned about the claim that it's a "retcon" of the Yoshi's Island ending. While I would agree that this is likely a retcon, that it is a retcon is not mentioned in the article.
- No need for citations in the lead
- The use of multiple babies in Yoshi's Island DS is not mentioned in the article, making me question why Baby Mario being the only baby questionable as to why it's given so much real estate in the lead. I would recommend dropping this and discussing how the game plays with eggs and other such moves, as well as how Baby Mario functions.
- I feel like the lead could be a little meatier; consider expanding on dev info.
Infobox
- The article does not mention that Nintendo was its publisher outside the lead and infobox
- Is there any source on the director?
- Is there any source on the first producer?
- Is there any source on the artist?
- I would recommend mentioning the composer in the article
- Should mention the genre in Gameplay
- The Australian release date is given two different dates, one in the article and one in the infobox
Gameplay
- I don't think it needs mention that the Yoshis can be different colors, as this doesn't affect the gameplay or story
- I feel like "which must be aimed manually" might be misleading, since IIRC, there's also an auto-aimer.
- It may be worth mentioning that Yoshi can also die from pits (and I assume spikes are still deadly?)
- What is a goul roulette?
- This section should explain that the stars and the 10-30 seconds to get Baby Mario are linked; otherwise, it may make the reader think that Yoshi's health meter is just a traditional system.
- You can probably drop "notable" from "notable feature," maybe replace with "new feature" instead since it's really the only major new feature
Reception
- Nintendo Selects mention should be in sales figures, and the conflation of critical reception to this label should be removed, as they are not related and the association is not covered in the RS attached.
- In my understanding, the review table should be limited to only 10 sources. Furthermore, multiple reviews are mentioned in the table but not in the Reception text, namely The Guardian, VentureBeat, CGMagazine, Polygon, PCMag, and the second Nintendo World Report review. I would recommend removing them and, if possible, adding them to the actual Reception text.

Comments
- Thank you for your feedback, @Cukie Gherkin: I believe I was able to implement almost all of it. I just wasn't able to find a reliable source for the first producer in the infobox. If there's anything else I can do to improve the article, don't hesitate to let me know. ★ The Green Star Collector ★ (talk) 02:52, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cukie Gherkin: All of the "Gameplay" section feedback has been implemented. ★ The Green Star Collector ★ (talk) 14:37, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, just reminding you @The Green Star Collector: that there's a citation that needs fixing. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 10:44, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Cukie Gherkin: The one about the vehicle transformations? I've replaced it with two citations that each mention all six vehicles. ★ The Green Star Collector ★ (talk) 13:22, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
Peer review
[edit]
I nominated this article about a month ago for FA status, but at the time, the language was too difficult for a general audience to understand, and the source review was unable to be completed. I've got a bit more time on my hands now, so I feel that I can make the necessary changes at this time. Having another set of eyes look over the article—preferably those of someone unfamiliar with video game terminology—would be helpful. Much appreciated! ★ The Green Star Collector ★ (talk) 22:54, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

[edit]My understanding of video game terminology doesn't go much beyond "The cake is a lie", so I'm probably a good fit for this review.
Looking over the first FAC, I see one of the issues was citation bombing. This is still a problem. I see examples like Multiple reviewers also criticized the game for a perceived lack of difficulty,[58] particularly in its boss fights,[1][12][20][23][25][55]
There's no way you need six citations to support "particularly in its boss fights". Just pick the one source which best supports the statement and use that. This is not an isolated example; I see many places where three or even four citations are attached to a single sentence. It's not necessary and as SchroCat pointed out in their review, it makes it hard to read.
But, you specifically asked about your use of video game terminology, so I'll stick to that for the rest of this review.
The game features six worlds, each comprising eight base levels and two optional levels,[1] for a total of 60 courses
What's a "world"? A "level"? A "course"? How does a "base level" differ from an "optional level"?Each boss is defeated in three hits
I'm guessing "hit" means the same as it would in colloquial English, i.e. you've got some kind of weapon that you can fire and you've hit the target three times, but it would be better to explain that explicitly.... before the infant is taken away by Kamek's underlings, which results in the loss of a life.
I'm guessing that means your character can die and come back to life some number of times before the game is over, and "loss of a life" signifies using up one of that quota. But, again, that's just a guess.- Actually, I see this is explained later (
If all lives are lost, the player receives a game over and must start from the beginning of the level with five lives"
, but pull that up to the point of first use to keep the reader from wondering.
- Actually, I see this is explained later (
Yoshi can obtain the Flutter Wings, a power-up that enables indefinite hovering
. Clicking through to Power-up expalains that it is "an object that adds temporary benefits or extra abilities", but it would be better to explain that in-line.Each level can be finished with up to five flowers, twenty red coins, and thirty stars
Apparently these are items which you character can find, but you could be more explicit about that. One of the bonus levels in each world is unlocked by obtaining...
Earlier you talked about "optional" levels. Are those the same as "bonus" levels?... the other is opened up after 30 medals are collected
Earlier you talked about flowers, coins, and stars. Now we find out that there's also medals, which is kind of confusing.post-level minigames
What are these?A feature introduced in Yoshi's New Island is Mega Eggdozers
This reads awkwardly because of the juxtaposition of "is" (singular) with the plural "Mega Eggdozers". I think its actually correct ("A feature ... is") but it still sounds awkward, so I'd rephrase it.... hitting certain blocks
What's a block?In addition to the game's story mode
I understand the conventional English meaning of "mode", but it's linked to Game mechanics#Modes which gives a richer definition. You might want to pull some of that up to the main article.stork delivers
these two adjacent links are WP:SEAOFBLUE.The stork ... is ambushed by Kamek
I had to search backward to find out who Kamek is; it might be worth while adding a reminder here ("... ambushed by Kamek the evil wizard").if the player has used ... to clear a level
What does it mean to clear a level? Its name was revealed at E3 2013
I had no clue what "E3" was until I clicked through the link.Multiple reviewers also criticized the game for ... its boss fights
You've used the term "boss" many times, so I assume it has some standard meaning in the video game world, but I have no clue what that might be.
That's about it for me. Hope you find some of this useful. RoySmith (talk) 21:57, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
