Telling readers that a group of articles called "ThinkCentre" has an article line called "ThinkCentre" in it conveys no information whatsoever. What is it? Some of the lines mix laptops with other form factors, so perhaps splitting into "Desktop" and "other" might makes sense, so I will do that. But otherwise it seems redundant and wasteful. Especially if someone is browsing the article on a smart phone for example, every bit of screen area matters and should convey information instead of just take up space. And why hide the Lenovo 3000 and Lenovo Skylight? If they are not notable then let's delete the article instead of hiding it. W Nowicki (talk) 16:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification, Nowicki. I believe I understand your point better now. It makes sense that brand names not be used for grouping, since users aren't likely to know much about the products and product names when they see them on Wikipedia. With the categorization of products, like I said, I was aiming to group them into something that accommodates future updates. As an alternative, can they be grouped as Enterprise/Corporate and Consumer machines?
If you look at the ThinkPads and ThinkCentres, they're aimed at business users. The other product lines (IdeaPad, IdeaCentre, Essential Laptops and Essential Desktops) are all Consumer. So a grouping like Corporate Desktops, Corporate Laptops, Consumer Laptops and Consumer Desktops (or some variant of that) might work better. Let me know if this sounds good and I'll update the template accordingly.
To folow up, yes, that is what I was thinking. Use terms that are in normal English and it much more likely to mean something to general readers. W Nowicki (talk) 17:44, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
