Template talk:Modern North American Toyota vehicles
Yaris vs. Yaris Liftback, etc.
[edit]Yaris liftback (Vitz) and the Yaris sedan (Belta) are not the same car. The template should really reflect this, no? Av 01:24, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- That only applies to the current generation Yaris. The previous generation hatchback and sedan were, effectively, the same car but in different body styles. There is a disambiguation page for that anyway. No need for the template change.Butterfly0fdoom 20:08, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Point taken, but Yaris still leads to Belta - I guess this should be switched to go to the disambiguation page. Furthermore, the Yaris hatch was available for the 2006 model year in Canada and Mexico. Av 22:32, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, the Echo sedan and hatchback seem to be _different_ cars - see Toyota Vitz vs. Toyota Platz. Av 03:31, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Toyota, for their Japanese lineup, tends to give a new name to a different body style of the same car. If you look at the first generation Vitz and the Platz, the only difference is the body style and the front end. Everything else is the same. Only now do the hatchback and sedan have total separation in design. But that's what disambiguation pages are for. Butterfly0fdoom 11:24, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

2009 models
[edit]Attn: Regardless of what Wikipedia's policy regarding this template is, 2009 models haven't been announced for any Toyota models yet (It's not even calendar year 2008). Do NOT change this template based on rumors or guesses. --butterfly0fdoom
- The timeline currently suggests that all models except the Corolla and Matrix have been cancelled for 2009. Is that true? --Vossanova o< 15:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- In that case, I think a decision needs to be made for the sake of organization: drop 2009 from the template until information on all vehicles can be confirmed, or allow the extension into 2009 for the cars that can be safely assumed to be continued. This article says that the Solara will be dropped while the remaining cars will stay the same for the new model year. 71.139.185.31 (talk) 11:04, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
June 9, 2018 edits
[edit]Various edits made to this template on June 9, 2018 by User 86.136.165.237 do not properly reflect the Toyota lineup in North America. There was no Toyota Tercel Hybrid offered. The Echo's name was not stylized as ECHO and the model years were changed incorrectly. The Yaris RTE is not offered in North America. In Mexico, the 2015+ Yaris R is a Mazda Demio variant, whereas the Yaris Sedán is either an XP150 Vios (15-17) or Yaris ATIV (18+); the edits incorrectly linked the Yaris R to the Vitz rather than the Demio, and removed the 2015+ Mexican XP150 models. I'd like to assume good faith, but I don't believe that any of these edits are factually correct, other than another editor's attempt to fix the E70/E80 Corolla model year changeover, and this was correct before 86.136.165.237 got involved. Hence, I'm reverting the entire lot. Carguychris (talk) 22:12, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
New template needed for 2020+?
[edit]This template is already very crowded and will become even more so as more model years are added. I would like to suggest renaming it as "North American Toyota vehicles, 2019 and earlier" and starting a new template for MY 2020. Carguychris (talk) 16:07, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- It would be silly having a timeline template with just one column, and only ten after nine more years. I would instead suggest moving the 1980s to the classic template (Template:Toyota timeline (North America) 1958–1979) such that this template starts at 1990. --Vossanova o< 17:11, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- I'd also suggest it's too soon to add the 2020 model year, as most of the cars aren't confirmed yet (we can guess but shouldn't). I can only see the value in adding it now to stop people from incorrectly adding Supra to 2019. :) --Vossanova o< 17:15, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- We could split it at 2010. That leaves
{{Toyota timeline (North America) 1958–1979}}
,{{Toyota timeline (North America) 1980–2009}}
,{{Modern_North_American_Toyota_vehicles}}
. Of course, we would have to have a search and rescue mission on articles to change some of them from 'modern' to '1980–2009' (or both) as appropriate. Stepho talk 22:40, 10 April 2019 (UTC)- I like the idea of splitting it at 2010. 30 model years is a good number. I'll start creating the template soon.Carguychris (talk) 13:55, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- New template posted at User:Carguychris/sandbox. I propose add the new template to affected articles and only revise the Modern template when I'm certain that I've edited them all. Carguychris (talk) 14:17, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- Wouldn't it be good if the templates overlap a few years (5?). That way you could get better context for cars produced around the switch of template. ⛐Boivie (talk) 15:23, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- I think an overlap would be more confusing and would needlessly complicate revisions and corrections. Carguychris (talk) 18:22, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- The new 1980-2009 template has been created and linked; however, please note that I am not deleting model years 1980 to 2009 from this template until all affected models are linked to the new template, which may take a few days. Carguychris (talk) 20:40, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
