Conference Championship articles
[edit]Hello,
I noticed that you have created several articles for individual NFC/AFC Championship Games over the years. I notice that most of these involve the Packers (likely related to your involvement with the Packers WikiProject). I brought this up with WP:NFL and we determined that most of these articles, aside from the 2018 NFCCG, fail WP:NOTABILITY and especially WP:PERSISTENCE. However, I was wondering if you did this with the intent of eventually having an individual page for every single AFC and NFC Championship Game played? If so, I can definitely bring that up with WP:NFL and help with it if they approve. Red0ctober22 (talk) 05:45, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Red0ctober22, you are correct, I have been writing articles on NFC Championship Games involving the Packers. I do not plan on writing any articles not related to WP:PACKERS. If you have a link to that discussion, please share it. That said, consensus can change. I will also note that The Tip (American football) and The Catch (American football) both exist, somewhat contradicting the claim that only one NFC CHampship Game is notable.
- Each of these articles that I have written is connected to an established rivalry and has persistent coverage related to the specific rivalry. I will note I do not publish articles until they are complete and ready for WP:GAN, and I strive to include sources that showed continue coverage. As you can see, the 2014, and 2019, and 2020 articles have all been promoted to GA, while the 1997 and 2010 are currently at GAN. I do believe that many, if not all, meet WP:SPORTSEVENT, both as the final game to determine the conference champion and games that typically receive long lasting coverage, as well as front page coverage outside of local markets. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:49, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding, I did not see "The Tip" or "The Catch" there, but those definitely can be considered notable. I will say though there were questions about if the 49ers/Packers NFCCG in 2019 is notable, along with the Bucs/Packers 2020 NFCCG, but the discussion for that is here. - Red0ctober22, I take umbrage with the characterization that any consensus has formed in that discussion, which is dominated by you and really only has editors chiming in about general guidelines and policies. I'm unsure of how your confidence in saying "The Tip" or "The Catch" are notable, while somehow discounting the 2014 NFC Championship Game, which has been discussed for years as a shocking comeback and a huge part of the Packers-Seahawks rivalry. As I said earlier, WP:SPORTSEVENT provides sufficient justification, imo, to warrant a standalone article for these types of games. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 17:24, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- You are correct, there has been no consensus determined, I just wanted to clarify with you that an editor had suggested that I propose requests for deletion, which I don't believe is a necessary step yet. Red0ctober22 (talk) 17:31, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
