Abortion

[edit]

Hi!! Sorry, I'm still new to figuring out what exactly to do in each situation on Wikipedia. So, do you think I should wait a day? What if no one responds. Or is there a way to propose a change? Am I missing something about this edit, where some would view it as politically motivated? GrimaldiiSolace (talk) 03:28, 15 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oh gosh, don't apologize, Wikipedia can be confusing, especially when it comes to WP:CTOPs. I'm not an expert in them myself, nor do I have terribly much experience with them. WP:Teahouse might be more helpful/specific, but in general, because abortion is a CTOP (WP:CT/AB) you should try to err as much on the side of caution as possible.
In this case, because your edit was reverted, and there's an ongoing discussion on the article talk page about the lead sentence, you should try to keep engaging with the discussions on talk and see if you can find some WP:Consensus. Maybe there are tweaks or clarifications you could make. In terms of how long you should wait, that really varies quite a bit. The main thing you want to avoid is getting into an WP:EDITWAR. I would say a minimum rule of thumb is to wait 24 hours after posting on the talk page, but there's no harm in waiting longer.
Also, just in case no one's told you yet, all the links that start with things like "WP" either go to pages that explain the topic or to noticeboards that you can ask questions on. Both types of pages also often link to other relevant explanations, and so on... CambrianCrab (talk) please ping me in replies! 00:17, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category Lab equipment

[edit]

Hello. Why are you removing Category:Labratory equipment from a significant number of articles? I don't think this category needs to be removed from that many articles. Also, removing these three categories (diff here) from "Electroporation" seems to be overdoing it. Did you discuss these removals on any Wikipedia venues before undertaking these actions? ---Steve Quinn (talk) 02:28, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Most of the articles I removed from Category:Laboratory equipment were about microscopy techniques which seems pretty cut and dry (not equipment). I also removed some redundant categories and diffused some (i.e. Molecular biology laboratory equipment is already within the parent cat Laboratory equipment, etc). I don't remember any of them being grey areas, but I'm happy to discuss any specific changes if you had concerns.
For the Electroporation article specifically, it’s a technique in Molecular biology, so I diffused it to that specific cat. I meant to also diffuse Biotechnology->Genetic Engineering to match the template, not sure how I missed that but it's in there now. I guess it could also fit in Microbiology techniques, but I’ve never really heard it described that way so I left it out. You're welcome to add it though if you think it fits CambrianCrab (talk) please ping me in replies! 21:18, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
