DYK for Edgar Matobato

[edit]

On 15 June 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Edgar Matobato, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that ex-hitman Edgar Matobato (pictured) fled the Philippines with a fake passport while posing as a gardener? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Edgar Matobato. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Edgar Matobato), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle
The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle

Hey Chlod, the Developing Countries WikiContest will be returning for a second year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.

In other news, we have a new face on the coordinator team this year: last year's sixth-place finisher, Arconning (talk · contribs)! The coordinators would like to extend a sincere thanks to Ixtal (talk · contribs), who is leaving the team, without whom the contest would not exist. After feedback from contestants last year, the scoring rules are undergoing some modifications; the new rules and a summary of the changes made will be posted to the contest talk page shortly.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Question from Mark Henry Annett (03:55, 28 June 2025)

[edit]

How does one go about writing and uploading an article? I have been wanting to publish an Wikipedia article about my grandfather, the Canadian author R. Ross Annett, for some time. I have drafted such an article and I’d like some information about how one can make that happen. Thanks. --Mark Henry Annett (talk) 03:55, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Mark Henry Annett! Sorry for the late response. First, thanks for reaching out and your interest in writing an article for Wikipedia! There's some things to keep in mind when drafting an article, especially for subjects that you're related to.
  • Wikipedia has a conflict of interest guideline which editors are expected to follow. It doesn't ban conflict of interest editing; we recognize that there are editors who are able to manage their conflicts of interest in editing. What it does is set rules and standards that should be followed when editing. You can read more about that guideline at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.
  • When finished with writing drafts, you're expected to submit the draft through our Articles for Creation (AfC) process. This process allows the draft to go through review from another editor. We'll be able to check for whether the draft matches our standards through this process.
  • Wikipedia only accepts articles on subjects which are notable. We have notability guidelines for authors, which may be relevant for the draft you plan to write. In general, we look for significant coverage of the subject in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. The best way to ensure that a subject is notable is to write an article "forwards"—that is, to look for at least three sources first, write the draft solely on those sources, and then build the rest of the article afterwards.
Help:Your first article has a lot of advice on getting your first draft written. You may also want to read Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide for a more detailed guide on handling a conflict of interest. If you ever get stuck somewhere, feel free to reply here or to ask for help on the Teahouse, our question forum. Best of luck with writing your article! See a    "developing" or    "least developed" country? Write about it to earn points!

Chlod, for the second running of the Developing Countries WikiContest, it is now open for submissions. The coordinators have addressed some of the queries at the last contest and we are hopeful that it'll turn out great! If you haven't done so already, please review the following:

On behalf of the coordinators, we hope you enjoy participating and wish you the best of luck! If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Question from Veyrash3 (18:48, 6 July 2025)

[edit]

I didnt realize there was so much to navigate on here i thought i followed the correct format then i saw a popup for delation. --Veyrash3 (talk) 18:48, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Veyrash3! Looking at your talk page, it seems like the page you created was deleted because it was unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view. Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion. An advertisement which pretends to be an article is fundamentally incompatible with Wikipedia, and will be deleted quickly.
