Hello, Jabbethehutt37!

Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Jabbethehutt37, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, which will be reviewed by other editors. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

- Hi Gheus! Thanks for the feedback, very helpful and fast. I'll first summarize the feedback you shared along with the points in the yellow box:
- 1. References do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article
- 2. Submission not written in formal tone
- 3. Conflict of interest: multiple users on one article, poor username, disclosure of compensation
- I'll address each one individually, let me know if I missed one.
- 1. References do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article
- There are several newspaper articles beyond the People Magazine one. These articles have no links as most were prior or early internet days. I've listed most of them below to supplement the existing resources in showing that Richard L'Abbe is worthy of a Wikipedia article.

- - https://screenshot.click/30-25-2hxkf-iay92.png

- However, I don't believe these articles tell the full story. I believe being a recipient of the Order of Canada and receiving the Distinguished Public Service award from the US Navy as a Canadian speaks for itself. This is the single highest honor granted to civilians
- 2. Submission not written in formal tone
- This is excellent feedback and I will gladly make use of the resources available for editing assistance. Thanks you for suggesting it. After reading the links, there appear to be at least 2 ways: using "subst:submit|username" and Userspace draft. I'm not sure which to proceed with so I'm going to try both, hopefully that isn't too bothersome.
- 3. Conflict of interest
- - multiple users on one article - I am the only author of this article with the subject (my father) reviewing for accuracy
- - poor username - In the process of changing my username to my real name
- - disclosure of compensation - I am receiving no compensation for this, simply immortalizing my father's fascinating story
- Thanks again for your help! Jabbethehutt37 (talk) 13:48, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

- Thanks lbjaja055 for your feedback! I've made several changes to focus only on content that has reliable sources. Most of my references are from newspaper articles from the 90s of which we have photos of clippings. I believe these are sufficient as they are well known and respected local newspapers that still exist today (Ottawa Citizen, Montreal Gazette). Another change I made was add in line citations to 2 sentences in the Career section, along with removing any content that didn't have a reference such as bronze medal in kayaking and Life Magazine's This Year in Pictures.
- Please advise if these changes address your feedback or if you are suggesting more of the sources are unreliable, and if so which ones.
- I very much appreciate your help and look forward to hearing from you. Eriklabbe (talk) 18:58, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
