Deadline 3: Yujin Jang

[edit]

Dear Professor I have completed deadline 3 of "Understanding Small and Big Data with Wikis" from the professor.

This is my draft Hongseong at Wikivoyage for main project individually.

Please check, Thanks.Yujin0203 (talk) 07:00, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yujin0203 Good progress Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 06:59, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline4:CAI ZHIHANG

[edit]

Dear Professor.

I am studying “Understanding Small and Big Data with Wikis” and “Media Trends and Globalization”.

This is my first draft of the sandbox link Caizzz (talk) 06:12, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Caizzz Good start. Please make sure to add references to your article. Please remember that only referenced content can be added to English Wikipedia and only such content will count for credit. The content from Chinese article that has no references needs to be referenced first before being translated. See Wikipedia:Verifiability
In some cases you have links to Baidu content rather then Wikipedia - please make sure to fix your links. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 08:20, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is my new link Caizzz (talk) 12:30, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Caizzz Good, but please check your links. Your url for reference 1 leads to Chinese Wikipedia, instead of the book in question.
Next, if the source is in Chinese (ex. 李鹏《六四日记》), please use both the Chinese and English titles. Use Chinese title in the 'title' field, and English in the 'translated title' field. If you need help, stop by my office and I'll demonstrate how to do so. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 06:18, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the new link Caizzz (talk) 05:25, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Caizzz Good job adding English titles, but please fix link to Wikipedia in your reference 1, it should link to the book in question. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 07:24, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the new link Caizzz (talk) 04:54, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Caizzz I have fixed it for you. Please see how it should be done. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:19, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Caizzz Good progress. The content from Chinese article that has no references needs to be referenced before being published. See Wikipedia:Verifiability
Also, please add links (and Chinese title, if the source is in Chinese) to references 5, 13 and 15. If the reference is not online, please add other information that allow confirmation that the source exist (link to library catalogue entry for the position or such). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:44, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the new link 5,13,15 Annotation has been completed. Caizzz (talk) 04:23, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Caizzz Good. Please replace reference 15 with a better source. Per the discussion and explanation at 1Wikipedia:BAIDU, Baidu is not allowed on Wikipedia (too many errors). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:34, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For ref 23 - is this a book? Can you add ISBNs to it and other books? Also, if it is in Chinese, it needs a Chinese title, not just English. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:35, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reference 15 has been revised. The original text in reference 23 has no annotations. Here is the link Caizzz (talk) 04:20, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Caizzz Ok. Please carefully check all references one by one to ensure they have metadata information (author, title, publisher, date). Next, if the source is in Chinese (ex. 李鹏《六四日记》), please use both the Chinese and English titles. Use Chinese title in the 'title' field, and English in the 'translated title' field. If you need help, stop by my office and I'll demonstrate how to do so.
Please correct a link to Baidu in article body in the 'Folk commemoration' section, it should link to Wikipedia instead.
Please add references to the content that is missing them. I see many sentences and even paragraphs without a reference. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:35, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Chinese title and English title have been written. The Baidu link in the folk memorial has also been replaced with a Wikipedia link. Then there are only 24 references in the original article, and I have already made 24。This is my new link Caizzz (talk) 04:39, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed the Chinese to English translation of the Wikipedia article, here is my He Delai please check it out.

Dear Professor:

I am taking two courses, "Media Trends and Globalization" and "Understanding Small and Big Data through Wiki".Here are two translations of my “Media Trends and Globalization” course:"Anarchism in Poland"and“Anarchism in Korea”.

Here's my map extension to learn about "Understanding Small and Big Data through Wiki"course:HanZhong

Thank you for your confirmation. Tyuni06 (talk) 05:31, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tyuni06 Good. I see your translation articles have a number of issues tagged in the warning box at the top, primarily related to the low quality of the translation. Please work with editor or editors who added this warning to resolve them. You can identify them by looking at the history of your article, and then you should ask them for explanation if you don't understand the issues mentioned or asked to check if they have been resolved if you have already tried to address them.
Regarding your Hanzhong article, it is missing a major element: all your entries in see and do should be in a listing format, with GPS coordinates, as we practiced in class on many occasions (if you forgot how to do it, see my during my office hours and I will demonstrate). Also, your see is too short - it should include some of what you list at do. Wuhou Temple is for example listed in both places. Please clean up your work. There are also many other issues; for example, you mention Nanhu Scenic Area in 'get around' but not in see or do. (This is just one of many similar errors). Please copyedit your article carefully. Please make sure to add Chinese names to each location mentioned, as well as an external link (like with Wuhou Temple) confirming that this place really exists and is not an AI hallucination/invention. Deadline5 :SHAO TIANYI&ZHONG QI

[edit]

Dear professor, We are taking two courses, "Media Trends and Globalization" and "Understanding Small and Big Data through Wiki". We have completed the Wikipedia entry on Chinese superstitions. Please check it. If there is no problem, I will publish it on Wikipedia.

Here is my sandbox links,[[1]]

This is our expanded Wikivoyage entry,[[2]] Thank you ——Yeomll (talk) 15:13, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yeomll This is a good start, but there is much cleanup needed. Some of your content is still missing citations and cannot be published (For example, in the section 'Characteristics of Chinese superstition' you have references for points 2, 3 and 4, but not for 1 and 5)..
For many other cases you cite a book, but without a page range. Please specify which page numbers or which short range contain information that you are citing for a given sentence.
Next, if the source is in Chinese (ex. 李鹏《六四日记》), please use both the Chinese and English titles. Use Chinese title in the 'title' field, and English in the 'translated title' field. If you need help, stop by my office and I'll demonstrate how to do so.
I already asked you to do most of this this last month: User_talk:Hanyangprofessor2/Archive_4#Deadline4:SHAO_TIANYI_&ZHONG_QI
----
Your Wikivoyage entry is improving nicely. Please expand the climate section (with the graph, as we practiced in class).
Please convert items in do, buy and eat into listings (like in the see section). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:15, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Media Trends and Globalization": I completed the translation of all my articles in the sandbox User:Zzzxxxrrr/sandbox

@Zzzxxxrrr
Regarding Mohe, it looks good. Please try to find and propose a new banner (see our instructions at https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/User:Hanyangprofessor2#Banners ) .
Then please ask for review and follow the recommendations from it (see https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/User:Hanyangprofessor2#Final_review).
Regarding your Chinese translation to English, about the diary, please proofread it carefully (you can use AI or tools like Grammarly). Right now, there are many grammar or vocabulary issues, and the article is very hard to read because of numerous errors. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:57, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Zzzxxxrrr Very good. But see the talk page at Talk:Mohe – Travel guide at Wikivoyage - a better (larger) image is needed. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:51, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Zzzxxxrrr You can upload only the pictures you have taken yourself. Please show me proof in class that this picture was taken by yourself; otherwise, it will be deleted as stolen.
Regarding your English translation, please proofread it carefully with AI or Grammar tools - if you have done so already, this was clearly not sufficient. There are many grammar or vocabulary errors, and it is difficult to read; many sentences have errors and are confusing. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:40, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline 6:HONG HAOTIAN&LI MENGCHEN

[edit]

Dear Professor: I am taking two courses, "Media Trends and Globalization" and "Understanding Small Data and Big Data through Wikis."

We have completed the translation of Chinese into English. Please check.[3] Limengchen2777 (talk) 04:44, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Limengchen2777 Good progress, but there are still some parts that are missing references. Each paragraph needs at least one reference (or more, if one is not enough to verify all the claims made in it). I still see several paragraphs that do not have a reference - please double check your article.
There is also strange content here: "Explosion incident Main article: Burst".
There are places where links are missing, ex. "Main article: Pandownload § Author arrested" or "Baidu Japan".
I see you tried to link Chinese articles using the interlanguage template I requested, that is good, but the code is incorrect - the links are broken. Please fix them or stop by my office and I'll show you how to do it.
Please fix the issues above, and carefully proofread your article (I recommend using a tool like Grammarly). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:02, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is our revised Chinese-English translation, please check!User:Limengchen2777/sandbox Honghaotian (talk) 04:46, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Limengchen2777
I don't see that anything was fixed; all the issues I've pointed out still remain.
Much content is still missing a reference and needs to be either deleted or referenced. There should be a citation (or more than one) at the end of each paragraph.
The link at "Main article: Burst" does not make sense and the context is missing.
There are broken (wrong) links, such as Main article: Pandownload § Author arrested [zh] or Main article: Baidu library infringement incident [Wikidata] , despite me showing you how to fix them in my office. Please fix all the links in yoru article. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 00:37, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here's my map extension to learn about "Understanding Small and Big Data through Wiki"course:JinCheng. SHENZIHE (talk) 06:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SHENZIHE: Hello, I am the patroller on Chinese Wikipedia. As Iming and UjuiUjuMandan mentioned on your talk page, using machine translation is disallowed on Chinese Wikipedia, and it is recommended that you rely on your own language skills to translate the article. You can also refer to the Translation Guideline and "Translationese" essay for further guidance.
You can use the article for creation process (條目建立專題) to submit your draft zh:User:SHENZIHE/韩国摇滚 and zh:User:SHENZIHE/朝鲜气候变化 for review by experienced editors. Thanks. SCP-2000 12:06, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SHENZIHE? Please be careful while editing. Why did you remove the important message above?
Please improve the quality of your translations, then ask the Chinese editors to review them. Only when they are approved by the Chinese editors, they can be published and will count for course credit.
Regarding your Jincheng articles, I do not see any map. Your article also needs a climate information with the graph template, and a banner. Please improve it to the standards we learned in class in the last two months. If needed, you can find our instructions for activities where we were learning those elements here: User:Hanyangprofessor2 – Travel guide at Wikivoyage
You can also come to my office if you have any questions. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:45, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because there is no way to change the name of the sandbox, the contents of the sandbox can only be copied to a new page. But why was it identified as machine translation. SHENZIHE (talk) 03:42, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is the article I translated in the sandbox. But there is no way to connect to the original article."Climate change in North Korea"and“Korean rock”. SHENZIHE (talk) 03:46, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SHENZIHE @SCP-2000 I am having trouble understanding your explanations. You can talk to SCP-2000 in Chinese (at their Chinese Wikipedia's talk page here User talk:SCP-2000 - 维基百科,自由的百科全书), and hopefully it will make it easier for you to resolve the issues. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:51, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm terribly sorry, Professor. I've already asked about SCP-2000 on the discussion page. Many of the things I don't know much about are actually generated by the machine because of the direct copy of the translation content, and I will change my translation content again. Can I delete my topic and submit it after re-changing it? Looking forward to your reply. SHENZIHE (talk) 09:54, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SHENZIHE You should be able to make fixes in your published articles, unless they have been deleted. SCP-2000 should be able to explain things to you; but unless your account is blocked, you should be able to edit those articles (the sooner, the better). @Buryab0ne First, please remember to log in before making your edits (including posting messages). Only content from logged in accounts counts for our course credit.
Regarding your translation, there are many errors in the references. Please edit them carefully and fix all the fields like author, title, publisher, etc.
Next, if the source is in Chinese (ex. 李鹏《六四日记》), please use both the Chinese and English titles. Use Chinese title in the 'title' field, and English in the 'translated title' field. If you need help, stop by my office and I'll demonstrate how to do so.
Please copyedit your text - there are unncessary double footnote numbers like [1]. Please copyedit the text to more neutral - statements like "And will continue to enrich people's understanding of the history of Chinese civilization" are not neutral, not encyclopedic and arguably, poorly written (please proofread your article with a tool like Grammarly to ensure it reads well).
Are there any images of this that we can add? Please check the Chinese article for images.
Please remember that only referenced content can be added to English Wikipedia and only such content will count for credit. The content from Chinese article that has no references needs to be referenced first before being translated. See Wikipedia:Verifiability On the bright side, you can get extra credit for adding footnotes to the Chinese article Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:16, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see some issues raised in the warning banner at the top of the article. Please work with editor or editors who added this warning to resolve them. You can identify them by looking at the history of your article, and then you should ask them for explanation if you don't understand the issues mentioned, or asked to check if they have been resolved if you have already tried to address them.
Your Fuding article looks good. At the top, please add a sentence or two advertisign the town - why would people want to go there?

@Guoying1
Regarding your Chinese article (translation), once you think the translation is completely done, you can publish your work by moving the draft to the mainspace (see zh:Help:页面重命名 on how to do this). Then we will see if the Chinese reviewers have any comments.
Your first article was published.
Regarding Yangjiang, please add GPS to the listings at See and Do that are missing them. The ones at Do, about festivals, seem to not be listings at all - please convert them into listings.
Also, please adjust the zoom on the map so that all locations are shown. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:38, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bai0926 I see some progress. Your map is broken - please try to add a working one (copy one from another article then adjust the GPS coordinates). Your article is missing a 'see' section (some content from 'do' should be there). Please review the guide at Wikivoyage:Article skeleton templates/Sections – Travel guide at Wikivoyage to understand better what should be in each section.
Please ensure all entries in your see and do are listings, with GPS coordinates. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:41, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please check it. CHEN HEBING (talk) 09:22, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CHEN HEBING @LJY2455.
Regarding your Chinese article (translation), once you think the translation is completely done, you can publish your work by moving the draft to the mainspace (see zh:Help:页面重命名 on how to do this). Then we will see if the Chinese reviewers have any comments.
Regarding your English translation, we have to fix the following issues:
Please remember that only referenced content can be added to English Wikipedia and only such content will count for credit. The content from Chinese article that has no references needs to be referenced first before being translated. See Wikipedia:Verifiability On the bright side, you can get extra credit for adding footnotes to the Korean article
Please format the references so that they have an English title (in addition to the Chinese), and other information (author, date, publisher).
Please add blue links like in the Chinese article, linking to other important concepts.
If a term exists in Chinese Wikipedia and has an article there, but not on English Wikipedia, please use Template:Interlanguage link to link it. If you need help, feel free to stop by my office. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:44, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your content in English looks good. Please proofread it with a tool like Grammarly, then add it to the relevant article.
Regarding your Wikivoyage article, For the get around section, you could mention if there are rental bicycles in the area, and what apps can be used?
For Festivals, I recommend moving this to the 'do' section, and converting each festival into a listing, with information on where it is happening (GPS) and when. See for example how this is done in the Wikivoyage article on Ansan.

Very nice job overall Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:49, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Dear Professor,

I am currently taking the courses "Media Trends and Globalization" and "Understanding Small Data and Big Data through Wiki." I have completed the translation of two Wikipedia articles: "Multicultural Families in South Korea" and "Corruption in India." My Wikivoyage expansion topic is "Ruili." In addition, because the original teammate gave up the translation task of this article, the current Wikipedia topic is "Korean multicultural family." This article will be completed by myself. Both the Wikipedia translation and the Wikivoyage expansion tasks have been completed. Please kindly confirm. Thanks! Jihaiyun (talk) 17:05, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jihaiyun Good progress. Please note there are some issues raised at zh:Draft:韩国多文化家庭 in the warning box at the top. Please work with editor or editors who added this warning to resolve them. You can identify them by looking at the history of your article, and then you should ask them for explanation if you don't understand the issues mentioned, or asked to check if they have been resolved if you have already tried to address them.
印度的腐败 looks good for now, but please monitor it to see if any issues are raised by the reviewers.
Regarding your Wikivoyage project, please suggest a banner to add (see our assignment for banners at User:Hanyangprofessor2 – Travel guide at Wikivoyage ).
For your listings, some are missing the Chinese name - please add them. See also comments on talk and fixes by other editors in the history of your article, to learn how your work has been corrected. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 00:51, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline 5:HUANG YANHAN

[edit]

Dear Professor,

The class I am taking is Media Trends and Globalization.

I would like to inform you that I have completed the assignment for deadline 5. However, I must apologize for changing the topic without prior notice. The original topic, "The History of Chinese Clans," (中国宗族史)involved too many classical Chinese texts, which I found challenging to translate. Therefore, I took the liberty of modifying the topic to "The Four Talents of Wu."(吴中四大才子) I have ensured that the basic content for the new topic has been completed.

The link to my sandbox is here. Please check , thank you HYH031277777 (talk) 18:14, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@HYH031277777 Good start. Please make sure to add references to your article. Please remember that only referenced content can be added to English Wikipedia and only such content will count for credit. The content from Chinese article that has no references needs to be referenced first before being translated. See Wikipedia:Verifiability
Your existing footnotes need to be formatted properly using citation templates, and content needs to be translated to English. Actually, right now only one footnote (5th) looks correct, if abberviated; the others seem to be comments, not references.
If a term exists in Chinese Wikipedia and has an article there, but not on English Wikipedia, please use Template:Interlanguage link to link it. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 00:57, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Professor:

I am taking two courses, "Media Trends and Globalization" and "Understanding Small Data and Big Data through Wikis."

I have completed Deadline 5, which involved translating two articles in my sandboxes: one from Chinese to English and the other from English to Chinese.

Please check it. Thank you! Uuueol (talk) 22:20, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Uuueol
Regarding your English translation, you need to separate references from footnotes. See Help:Footnotes#Footnotes:_predefined_groups It seems you already have some, badly called 'Annotations'. Please format them all using the guide provided above, or come to my office for help.
Your current references 1-4 are footnotes, not references, and require references of their own.
Your other references should be formatted correctly with citation templates. Some are mostly in Chinese and as such cannot be understood by me or other English readers. This applies to ref 5, 6, 8 and 9, for example.
Next, if the source is in Chinese (such as your current ref 7 and probably 10 and others following), please use both the Chinese and English titles. Use Chinese title in the 'title' field, and English in the 'translated title' field. If you need help, stop by my office and I'll demonstrate how to do so.
Some content in your article has no references. Please make sure to add references to your article. Please remember that only referenced content can be added to English Wikipedia and only such content will count for credit. The content from Chinese article that has no references needs to be referenced first before being translated. See Wikipedia:Verifiability
Regarding your Chinese article,if you have translated most content, you can publish your article by moving the draft to the mainspace (see zh:Help:页面重命名 on how to do this); then we will see what the Chinese reviewers will say Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:48, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply][reply]

@MUYW This is a good start but needs much to be improved - see https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/User:Hanyangprofessor2 for the list and details of our assignments. In particular, you need:
  • a banner
  • more listings with GPS coordinates; many of the current listings don't have GPS information
  • a section on climate (with text, you already have the graph - good)
  • the first sentence should be longer, with a bit advertising on why tourists would like to visit that city
  • main local bus station should have a GPS address, just like the main tran station does. The names of the bus and train stations should be clearly marked. Airport needs a GPS marker.
  • One entry (Kanas) is duplicated in see and do, chose one and merge the other into it.
  • Buy section needs to be expanded with more information.

@Parksungeun Very nice. Please look at the suggestions at Talk:Jecheon – Travel guide at Wikivoyage
In particular, please expand the first sentence, and add a bit more detail to the get around. Are there taxis or rental bikes? What apps can people use them to catch taxi or rent a bike?
In the do section, add a section on local festivals, if there are any. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:20, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Other users remove copyright content copied from https://www.chinawiki.net/thread/48/22696.
But I found the content on this website is completely copied and translated from Baidu.
We know that Wikipedia cannot use content from Baidu, and we will find more valuable references.
Just confused, why is the content on this website (https://www.chinawiki.net/thread/48/22696.) copyrighted?Maybe Is there any cooperation with Baidu? Babaibiaobin (talk) 12:53, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
