An idea for "seconds" at EotW
[edit]As we approach 600 Editors of the Week, I have a suggestion to put to you. Previously I have added a simple "Seconded by _________" to the nomination when I award it. When possible I meld what the second says into the initial nomination (when possible). With the recent gaggle of interested editors and their lengthy and deserved seconds, I am considering moving them (the seconds), en-masse, to a sub-thread on the recipients talk page as a separate edit a few moments after the awarding so they don't get lost in the shuffle. Thoughts? Buster7 Chat 15:41, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- There are reasons why I like combining the discussion into a cohesive recognition statement (and reasons why I encouraged discussion about nominations to take place on the nomination talk page rather than the nomination page), but honestly whatever works best for you is fine. I think there is awkwardness in cases where there is disagreement, but given that's such a small number of the recognitions, I think it's OK to handle them specially. (If someone complains, they can set up their own initiative and run it the way they want.) isaacl (talk) 16:00, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
Regarding the nomination being declined, just a thought: the potential recipient has already received the encouragement from seeing the nomination and responses. Maybe it's the best of both worlds to allow them to decline and recognize someone else instead? isaacl (talk) 16:11, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed. They have removed themselves from the accepted page for Which I thanked them. Buster7 Chat 16:18, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]for your many edits such as this fixing the list style. I always try to follow whatever style is being used, but I'm sure that I've neglected to do so once or twice and you have fixed it without complaint. Who knows, I may even work out how and nominate you for editor of the week? Phil Bridger (talk) 20:00, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- You're welcome! I confess to be weary of doing it, but I appreciate that how the English Wikipedia community uses nested lists for discussion threads isn't a great user experience. As I was one of the key contributors to the creation of the Editor of the Week initiative, traditionally I've turned down nominations, though when one escaped my notice until it was awarded, I accepted it. So you'd have to sneak it through the nomination process :) I'm happy with personal notes though; I think they're an excellent way to give someone a little boost of appreciation! isaacl (talk) 21:36, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
Not entirely sure what it was supposed to do, but...
[edit]With regards to your edit to my comment's template, it's producing {{{2}}} ~Lofty abyss 21:46, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- My apologies; I forgot to uncollapse the comment to check how it was being rendered. I've restored the previous contents of the template. isaacl (talk) 21:54, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
