Welcome to Wikipedia, Kevin bentman! :D
[edit]Welcome!
Hello, Kevin bentman, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}}
after the question on your talk page. Again, welcome!
The image on the side has the text linked, hover over each to get a more in-depth understanding. Remaining a neutral point of view is NOT OPTIONAL, opinions that you express are not necesarily shared by other Wikipedians and as such should be kept to yourself. Just because the image says ignore all rules doesn't mean you disregard them, what that means is that if a rule hinders you from editing you should be bold and ignore it. Don't be a dick is quite self-explanatory, assume good faith and be civil.
Remember if you need help just give me a holler and I will get back to you as soon as possible, if I can't help I'll refer you to an administrator who can answer those queries which I cannot. If you are unsure as to whether or not your edit will break a policy ask an experienced user or place {{subst:adopt me}} if you want be "adopted" by a Wikimentor to learn under until you are capable of editing with minimal mistakes.
There are many things you can help with on Wikipedia, however, they all require some form of experience. For example users who participate in the Pending Changes trial need to have made some edits and show that they can be trusted, these users are known as Reviewers, users with Rollback rights have shown that they have experience in dealing with vandalism, these users are known as Rollbackers. There are many other user rights or flags but the requirements are far more serious.
Now that you know a bit of the basics go and contribute your knowledge to Wikipedia and make Jimbo proud. I hope to hear from you soon, who knows one day you might even become an administrator best wishes and happy editing :D
