  • Hello. Going to need (or at least ask for) a lot more explanation of why you closed the RM as "moved" and not as keep the present title or at least as 'No consensus'. I'd argue that there wasn't a consensus, please read the discussion again and consider changing your close. I was criticized for linking to the n-grams too often, hopefully you clicked on one of those. No explanation shouldn't do in this case as it doesn't seem a clear support or oppose result, and even 'no consensus' seems incorrect as keeping the long-term uppercasing is supported by the data. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 08:31, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please give me some time to clear my mind, so I can review the discussion with a fresh pair of eyes. Thank you, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 18:45, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No hurry, things like this never are. The RM itself went on for many weeks after its past due date, and we all ended up just playing at the end. Randy Kryn (talk) 00:54, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe when you get back? Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:44, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rotide! My first article draft was declined most of the information from the article I got piecing together information from online or physical media guides. How do I figure out the reason for it being declined and to better cite my article? --CoachBigFun (talk) 14:23, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Page Creation Help

[edit]

Hi Roti! I appreciate your help on my Wiki page about Charles Grispin and am reaching out for further clarification and help. I am not too familiar with Wikipedia's system and layout and am a little lost amongst all of the information. Were you the account to delete that page? If so, what could I change to have it resubmitted and not deleted? Charles Grispin is a successful scientist and well known name in the polymer pyrolysis industry, although he hasn't published writings of his own and has not been interviewed for papers, he has several patents and other forms of legitimacy. I believe that page followed all of the criteria of being notable, etc. I appreciate your feedback and advice, thank you! An eyewitness (talk) 20:08, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Belated thanks for the kind words! Sometimes I resubstitute {{requested move}} (with generous helpings of |heading=no and |sign=no) and click "Show changes", so the bulk of the credit goes to MediaWiki and their developers, hehehe. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 01:54, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Could you help with fixing the links to sump? I do think that the disambiguation page you created is correct, but I have no idea how to resolve the 100+ links, or if many of them should point to the Wiktionary entry. Natg 19 (talk) 01:38, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It will be held from Monday June 16 - Sunday July 13. There is $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize and $500 into geography and populated place articles. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for articles which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:08, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you would state: More than a month's worth of discussion on if the center of the Milky Way can the base page ... [emphasis added]. As a minor point, I would note what appears to be a word out of place. You would state: the lowercased title indirectly asked if the Milky Way center is the as primary topic for galactic center. I see no consensus on the strength of the evidence presented [that it is the primary topic]. As noted by Chicdat, Galactic centre is a redirect to Galactic Center. It is the topic to which G|galactic center directs. There is no issue of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Where you would state: ... may want to consider surveying, citing, and quoting specific sources ... this is effectively done by this statement in the discussion: ... and a review of google scholar (here and here) shows that this is certainly far from always capped in sources and there is no good reason to do so for this title. While an argument is made that there is a distinction in capitalisation between the galactic centre of our galaxy and that for other galaxies, this is not bourn out by evidence, where the majority of references are to our galaxy - ie reviewing a survey of actual sources, there is no evidence that galactic center is actually being used to for other than the center of the Milky Way. A further comment making direct reference to the same survey of sources states: The premise of the argument is that, uppercase proper noun "Galaxy Center" is a term specific to just one galaxy, the Milky Way and that this is a long standing convention [consistently followed]. A review of sources from a GS search confirms the very mixed use of the upper and lower case terms consistent with the ngram results (see my main comment above) and a perusal of the individual sources that use the lowercase form are almost always referring to the galactic centre of the Milky Way. The premise of the argument is contradicted by evidence of actual usage. Furthermore, while there is a lot of unsubstantiated conjecture in the discussion falling to personal opinion, I see no actual evidence presented to dispute this. Consensus is not a vote but determined by strength of argument viewed through the lens of P&G and in this case, how actual evidence relates to the established criteria. Where you would conclude that there is no consensus, this would presumably mean that the two sets of arguments are equally strong (or weak). Could you please be more explicit as to how/why this is the case. Cinderella157 (talk) 04:40, 7 June 2025 (UTC) Amend Cinderella157 (talk) 09:27, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing your thoughts to my attention; I will think on them. In the meantime, I have corrected the grammar in my close. Wishing you a restful weekend, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 05:52, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You made one of the two possible correct closes (no consensus), so please don't be swayed by extra discussion to reduce the casing. The Milky Way's Galactic Center is an exact geographical location, thus a proper name, and is covered by MOS:GEOCAPS and MOS:CELESTIALBODIES in that context throughout Wikipedia and the scientific community. Please consider adding those two guidelines to your close, as they were pointed out within the discussion. But yes, "No consensus" is one result that is accurate, although taking those two guidelines into account there seems to also be a logical policy-based consensus to not change the name. Thanks for your time and thought process. Randy Kryn (talk) 11:04, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What just happened is I read MOS:GEOCAPS and realized that the long-term language had been drastically changed, so if you read it earlier today here is the real version: "Geographical or place names are the nouns used to refer to specific places and geographic features. These are treated like other proper names and take an initial capital letter on all major elements:". This relates directly to the close of Galactic Center, which is a "specific place", and because of this undiscussed major language change (I think, don't know when this happened and I don't want to look at the history and get into personal finger-pointing to anyone) would ask you to consider putting another look into the close while taking the long-term language of MOS:GEOCAPS into account (although the long-term language has been reverted again). Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 03:10, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've been asked to strike the above because I had "participated" in the change. At that time I was not aware that the clear language had been edited to make it less clear that names of places are proper names. That's the point here, that the Galactic Center, which, uppercased, refers to the galactic center of the Milky Way, is an actual place, and is correctly uppercased on Wikipedia.
