Question from BetterThanBreadsticks (17:30, 19 May 2025)
[edit]Hi, thanks for helping us newcomers.
I had a question about reliable sources; should I use google to find it, or is there a specific website where I can find sources?
Thanks! --BetterThanBreadsticks (talk) 17:30, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
Hi @BetterThanBreadsticks: sorry for the late reply, and welcome to wikipedia. When it comes to finding reliable sources for Wikipedia articles, using Google can be a common starting point. but it's important to evaluate the sources you find to ensure they meet Wikipedia's standards for reliability.
For example, see:
- Help:Find sources This page offers guidance on locating reliable sources, including tips on using search engines effectively.
- Wikipedia:Reliable sources: This guideline explains what constitutes a reliable source on Wikipedia.
- Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources:This list discusses sources that are frequently debated within the Wikipedia community regarding their reliability.
Remember, the goal is to support Wikipedia content with verifiable, high-quality sources to ensure the information is accurate and trustworthy. Happy editing! —— 🌸 Sakura emad 💖 (talk) 12:02, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Morganmillipede (05:05, 29 May 2025)
[edit]am i allowed to make articles about myself --Morganmillipede (talk) 05:05, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Morganmillipede, welcome to wikipedia, In general, you are discouraged from creating a Wikipedia article about yourself. This is due to Wikipedia's conflict of interest and notability guidelines.
🛑 Why You Shouldn't Create an Article About Yourself
[edit]- Conflict of Interest (COI): Editing about yourself violates Wikipedia’s principle of neutrality. Even if you're trying to be objective, it's hard to avoid bias when writing about your own life or achievements.
- Notability Requirements: Wikipedia only includes articles on people who meet notability guidelines, which means there must be significant coverage in reliable, independent sources (e.g. news articles, books, academic journals). Personal websites, blogs, or social media don't count.
- High Deletion Risk: Self-created articles are often deleted if they appear promotional, lack independent sources, or fail to meet notability standards.
✅ What You Can Do Instead
[edit]- If you believe you meet Wikipedia’s notability criteria, you can:
- Wait for an uninvolved editor to write about you based on reliable sources.
- Use the Articles for Creation (AfC) process and disclose your connection transparently. Still, it may be rejected unless notability is clearly established.
