Britta Curl

[edit]

There has been some edit warring on the controversy section of Britta Curl. Please start a thread on the talk page if you wish to edit that section. Cheers! Wheatzilopochtli (talk) 19:48, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I made a new section but if it devolves into whatever happened on the earlier one I'm just going to RfC because it's ridiculously long and asinine over a single section of a social media controversy. Sock-the-guy (talk) 20:05, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bullet point in a discussion

[edit]

Hey, I noticed struggled with the formatting here (Just as I had when I first started participating in such discussions a while back). Just a small note to help you in the future.

When you are trying to add a new bullet response to a discussion such as a move discussion or a deletion discussion, you can't use the built in "reply" button feature as it will always format it as a "reply" (which in the Wikisource produces a : instead of a bullet point *. If you do use the reply feature, you need to afterwards go and edit the page to replace your : with *'s. Or you add your response directly using the source editor itself to begin with (that way you save yourself having to make two edits). I fixed the format for you, hope that was okay :)

Happy editing and retroactive Welcome to Wikipedia :) Raladic (talk) 18:32, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for fixing that. I try to focus on the writing part and not the software formatting etc, lol. I'll try to use the source editor for future discussions. Sock-the-guy (talk) 18:37, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, it's overwhelming at first and just one of those quirks of the Wikipedia editing experience :)
You can still use the reply button to actually reply to other peoples' comments, just not to make a new initial bullet point, such as a vote :) Raladic (talk) 18:39, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw you retired. Sorry to hear about that, the anti-trans stuff on here is kind of insane so I don't blame you. But I appreciate your kindness while you were here :) Sock-the-guy (talk) 22:20, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Vandalism can be reported here Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism. I took care of this for the Torres article but in the future that's the go to for similar issues. Iggy pop goes the weasel (talk) 17:03, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! There's so many links on this site I lose track. Sock-the-guy (talk) 17:04, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

LLM summary on feminist interpretations of Madonna-whore complex

[edit]

Thank you for your comment about my misguided attempt to help spur action to address articles with {{Technical}} tags by posting LLM-generated summarization suggestions. I have come to agree with your position and am retracting all of the suggestions. I want to ask about your specific comment on the fifth grade reading level summary at Talk:Madonna–whore complex#Proposed summary for technical prose. You wrote that the entirety would be unusable. I'm preparing to write up a postmortem report on the project, and I'd like to know why you said so, and whether you think the ninth grade or seventh grade reading level summaries for that article are any better or worse. I don't want to cause any further disruption, so please ignore this question if you feel like answering it wouldn't be a good use of time. Thanks again. Cramulator (talk) 22:35, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think the topic requires significant nuance that an LLM did not provide. It went from 'shaming' to 'making women feel bad' which have 2 very different connotations. This sort of issue continued, where the LLM used synonyms that were not similar enough and changed the meaning. Sock-the-guy (talk) 22:38, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That is entirely reasonable, and very useful for the postmortem report. Much appreciated. Cramulator (talk) 00:28, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

Hi, if you're interested in adoption I'd be happy to help. GoldRomean (talk) 15:44, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah! I understand I'm supposed to go find an editor looking to adopt but that's intimidating so I put it there and figured if someone happened to see it and wanted to then it would happen and if not then it wasn't meant to be Sock-the-guy (talk) 16:15, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's great! I've added a userbox to my talk page and you could do the same if you wish with {{Adoptee}}. If you want you can just ask me questions form time to time or I could try setting up a sort of "course" for you. GoldRomean (talk) 16:25, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
nice! I'll send you questions I have or ask for help with specific things, if that's alright. THanks! Sock-the-guy (talk) 16:30, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me :D! GoldRomean (talk) 16:49, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I may have bitten off more than I could chew with my sandbox right now but I think it's a good intro to translation stuff, even if I don't end up getting a whole lot out of it. My job gets busy this time of year so I have less time than I'd like but I'll try to get around to it soon Sock-the-guy (talk) 16:31, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking in

[edit]

Hi, just checking in! Nice work on that draft - it’s quite nicely written! Your recent contribs looks great as well. Sorry that you are banned from that guy’s Twitch page - a great loss indeed. Happy pride month. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 14:46, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Citation format you requested at the Help Desk

[edit]

At the Help Desk, you asked:

I recently found a report from the Canadian government as a source article, and can't figure out how to organize it. I ended up with this:

"A proposed Electoral Map for New Brunswick", Preliminary Report of the Electoral Boundaries and Representation Commission. November, 2005. https://www.legnb.ca/content/legislature/publications/2005-11-21%20Preliminary%20Report%20of%20the%20Electoral%20Boundaries%20and%20Representation%20Commission.pdf

Is there a better way I could've cited it? I'm not used to doing reports Sock-the-guy (talk) 23:30, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Use the cite web template tool from the top of the editing screen. Fill in the cells by copying/typing, with the resulting format following the punctuation, WP:REFPUNCT. If the citation will be used again, give it a "ref name". Where your cursor is blinking is where the insert will go.
Result for the different cells looks like this:<ref name="map-nb">{{cite web|title=A Proposed Electoral Map for New Brunswick, Preliminary Report of the Electoral Boundaries and Representation Commission |url=https://www.legnb.ca/content/legislature/publications/2005-11-21%20Preliminary%20Report%20of%20the%20Electoral%20Boundaries%20and%20Representation%20Commission.pdf |publisher=Electoral Boundaries and Representation Commission, Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick |access-date=27 June 2025 |date=21 November 2005}}</ref>
When the reference is inserted using the cite format, it looks like this:[1]
Hope this helps. Zefr (talk) 00:32, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's handy. I guess i thought cite web was only for websites, and was trying to find a different category for a report. Thank you! Sock-the-guy (talk) 05:27, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
