Help newbie enthusiasts with editing.

[edit]

Can anyone in Camden or around North London offer to a newbie some hands-on lessons in editing?

IP changing compass descriptions of London regions

[edit]

This IP made a lot of changes to London area articles overnight, most of them altering references to north/south/east/west London (eg. Docklands being moved from inner east and southeast London to east and south London).

They ignored a warning template for content removal and only stopped after User:Kevin McE gave a stronger warning for removing well established information from articles about parts of London only to make the articles less accurate.

Should it all be reverted? There's also some similarity in their edits to the LTA London block evader User:Hopeful2014, who relocated a lot of London articles like this and didn't want to discuss it. Belbury (talk) 09:02, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Having also seen User:FeistyRooster and User:Paul W reverting a lot of these edits this morning, I've now stepped in and rolled back the rest. Belbury (talk) 10:19, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have multiple articles about southeast London in my watchlist, so spotted the IP's changes (I live in SE London, and most locals I know refer to south London as being areas southwest of where we are - eg: Crystal Palace, Balham, Sutton, etc). For a decade or more, many of my London watchlist articles have described the various places as being in southeast London - the IP was overturning a long-standing consensus. Paul W (talk) 10:51, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You can see on the IP's talk page the complaints the ip has cautioned of and removing well established info. FeistyRooster (talk) 11:19, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I totally agree @Paul W:. This IP has turned over consensus and instead of trying to keep WP:CONSENSUS, the IP is violating WP:CONSENSUS, an actual Wikipedia guideline. FeistyRooster (talk) 11:21, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes,@Belbury: in my opinion, it should be all reverted because the IP is keeping WP:CONSENSUS out of reach and it was well established. The IP is using factually incorrect wording. But Wikipedia relies on verifiability, not the truth. So the IP also doesn't have any sources for this unless it is in the body per WP:CITELEAD, which even if true I highly doubt because the IP is combining poorly sourced info with violating 2 guidelines. Rennie Garden

[edit]

Hello all, I've created Draft:Rennie Garden. I am not sure whether ianVisits is considered a reliable source, so that limits information I've found. If anyone knows of any other relevant sources, that would be appreciated. Best, CMD (talk) 04:34, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You've got 'are' referring to 2012 plans. What happened? Sampson House has been demolished. Secretlondon (talk) 17:26, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
