Zed is a free and open-source text and source-code editor for Linux and macOS with support for extensions, and embedded version control with Git. Developed by Zed Industries, the people behind Atom.[2][3][4]
Features include support for syntax highlighting, Language Server Protocol (LSP), and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
History
[edit]After Atom was discontinued in 2022, three key contributors created Zed, announcing it in 2023. In 2024 the project was open-sourced.[5][6]
