Zinhle Essamuah is a filmmaker and American journalist who works as a news anchor for NBC News Daily.[1][2][3][4]
Early Life and education
[edit]Essamuah lived in Massachusetts until she was 11, when she moved to Crofton, Maryland. Her mother, Dr. Angela Wakhweya is a leader in public health development for non-profits that serve the Global South,[5] and her father, Rev. Dr. Casely Essamuah is a religious leader, author, and secretary of the Global Christian Forum.[6]
Essamuah attended Arundel High School[7] in Gambrills, Maryland and went on to graduate from George Washington University,[8] where earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2015 and a Master of Arts from the School of Media and Public Affairs. While in college, she directed Hands Up,[9] a documentary that follows stories relating to the Black Lives Matter movement.[10]
Career
[edit]Essamua completed an internship working on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and went on to create pieces for NowThis, a progressive news website, where she also hosted the daily evening news show. She is currently an anchor for NBC News Daily. In her career, Zinhle has reported on culture, climate, justice and health[11] across a variety of mediums.[12]
In 2023, Essamuah was nominated in the Outstanding Emerging Journalist category at the 44th News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
