Climate change in Hesse
Climate change in the German state of Hesse affects various environments and industries.
Greenhouse gas emissions
[edit]In 2023, 32,600,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas were emitted.[1]
Impacts of climate change
[edit]Public health
[edit]There has been an increase in the number of tiger mosquitos.[2] The hay fever season would be longer and allergenic plant species would be more common so hay fever sufferers would be negatively affected.[3]

The Act establishes the Hessian Climate Advisory Council.[4] The Act mandates that the state reach net zero emissions by 2030, but this isn't binding, with.[5]
In 2024, the state government maintained the commitments to emissions reduction as stated to the legislation, but the Hessian Greens criticised the plans to meet the obligations under the legislation as imprecise.[6]
In order to meet its obligations under the legislation, the state is using carbon reduction schemes, which has been criticised.[5]
In 2024, the state considered how electric cars could be used to meet the obligations under the Act.[5] Previously, the lack of electric charge points ahd been suggested as a major factor holding the state back.[7]
