Draft:Mahmoud Almadhoun

  • Comment: Does not meet the notability criteria for people as the coverage is only around his death, see WP:1E and WP:VICTIM for further explanation. If WP:SIGCOV can be demonstrated about the person that is not in relation to the Israeli airstike, then this would meet the criteria for inclusion. I suggest you review your references, presently number 3 does not show up and that makes it difficult to ascertain its coverage. Bobby Cohn (talk) 15:13, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

Mahmoud Almadhoun (1991 – November 30, 2024) was a Palestinian chef and humanitarian from Beit Lahiya, Gaza. He co-founded the Gaza Soup Kitchen, an initiative that provided meals to thousands of families displaced by Israel. Almadhoun was killed in an Israeli drone strike while delivering produce to Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Early life and career

[edit]

Born in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, Almadhoun owned a mobile device store before the escalation of the conflict. The destruction of his business due to airstrikes led him to focus on humanitarian efforts.

Almadhoun's dedication extended to delivering meals to Kamal Adwan Hospital, supporting patients and medical staff amid the conflict. His efforts garnered international attention, highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.[1]

Humanitarian work

[edit]

In February 2024, Almadhoun and his brother, Hani, established the Gaza Soup Kitchen to address severe food shortages in Gaza. Starting with four large pots, some wood for fire, and essential ingredients, the initiative expanded to operate five kitchens—three in northern Gaza and two in the south—feeding up to 3,000 people daily. The kitchens relied on donations and the efforts of family members, including their mother and sister.[2]

Death

[edit]

On November 30, 2024, Almadhoun was killed by an Israeli drone strike near Kamal Adwan Hospital while delivering produce. Eyewitnesses reported that the drone targeted him directly. Attempts to transport him to medical care were hindered by sniper fire, leading to his immediate burial.[4]

His death occurred during intensified Israeli military operations in Gaza, which also resulted in the deaths of other aid workers. Almadhoun is survived by his wife, Alaa, and their seven children, including a newborn daughter.[5] Israel's killing of Almadhoun drew international condemnation.[6]
