Submission declined on 14 June 2025 by JesusisGreat7 (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Submission declined on 30 April 2025 by BuySomeApples (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. Comment: It strikes me as very likely that Goodall qualifies for a Wikipedia article, but the sources in this article currently don't make that obvious. It would make a review much easier and faster if you would look specifically for reviews of his many books. If you can cite at least 2 independent, published reviews (ie in academic journals -- no interviews or blogs) for 2-3 of his books, that would allow the article to be accepted immediately. An easy way to do that is to just add the reviews as references to the list of titles in the "Publications" section. If you add those sources to the article, feel free to ask me to review it right away, by leaving a message with {{u|LEvalyn}} to get my attention, or posting on my Talk page. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 23:26, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Mark Goodall is a British writer, filmmaker, academic, and musician known for his work in cult cinema, experimental film, and the relationship between music and the occult. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Bradford, where his research focuses on cult and experimental films of the 1960s and 1970s, with particular expertise in the Italian mondo film genre.[1]
Career
[edit]Goodall has written about the Italian mondo film genre in his book Sweet & Savage: The World Through the Shockumentary Film Lens, considered the first English-language study on the subject. The book examines the genre's evolution and includes interviews with directors and producers.[2] The book was cited in an article in Crooked Marquee that explores the cultural legacy of mondo cinema.[3] He served as editor for a special issue of Film International on the legacy of mondo cinema.[4]
His book Gathering of the Tribe: Music and Heavy Conscious Creation explores the connections between music and esotericism across a range of genres including jazz, folk, and rock.[5] It was reviewed by Spectacular Optical, which highlighted its treatment of music and consciousness.[6]
Goodall co-directed the film Holy Terrors, an anthology based on stories by Welsh author Arthur Machen. The film was reviewed by Film Inquiry, which described it as a vivid adaptation,[7] and by Folk Horror Revival, which noted its engagement with early British supernatural fiction.[8]
Bright Young Things: The Art and Philosophy of él Records
[edit]In 2025, Goodall published Bright Young Things: The Art and Philosophy of él Records, a book exploring the British indie label él Records, founded by Mike Alway in 1984. The label combined 1960s pop, European chanson, and avant-garde influences, and had an impact on the Shibuya-kei movement in Japan, influencing groups like Pizzicato Five and Cornelius.
Goodall was interviewed about the book in Chickfactor, where he discussed the label's history and aesthetics.[9] Bearded Magazine also reviewed the book, noting its insights into the label’s influence.[10] A companion compilation album, The Rubens Room: él Records In Camera, was released by Tapete Records.[11]
Music
[edit]Goodall is the vocalist and guitarist for the band Rudolf Rocker, whose music has appeared in the BBC2 series The League of Gentlemen.[12]

Critical reception
[edit]Gathering of the Tribe was reviewed by Spectacular Optical, which described it as both a guide to esoteric music and a reflection on musical consciousness. Carl Abrahamsson called it "a brilliant, illuminating and highly well-written book," emphasizing its impact on readers' perceptions of music and consciousness.[6]
