Jade Alexandra Botterill (born December 1990)[1] is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Ossett and Denby Dale since 2024.[2]
Early life
[edit]Botterill grew up in Wakefield, her mother worked as a carer and her father as a prison officer.[3] She did not attend university and began working at the local River Island store aged 16.[4]
Career
[edit]Botterill worked as parliamentary assistant and head of office to Yvette Cooper, MP now Home Secretary, from 2013 to 2019. She also worked as a Corporate Affairs Advisor for Yorkshire Water, and Public Affairs Manager for 38 Degrees.[5]
She was selected as the Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for the Ossett and Denby Dale constituency in September 2023.[6] She joined political consultancy and public relations agency Portland Communications at the beginning of 2024, and co-authored a guide to Labour parliamentary candidates for Portland clients wishing to influence an incoming Labour government.[7][8] She received a £7,500 donation from Political Lobbying Media Relations during the 2024 election campaign.[9]
In November 2024, Botterill voted in favour of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which proposes to legalise assisted suicide.[10]
