Olivia Joanna Bailey (born 17 September 1986)[3][self-published source] is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Reading West and Mid Berkshire since 2024.[4][5]
Bailey had been Chair of the Labour Women's Network, deputy General Secretary of the Fabian Society, and a senior aide to Keir Starmer, before standing as a parliamentary candidate.[5]
Early life
[edit]Bailey was born in Reading, Berkshire to a policeman father and teacher mother. She attended Ranelagh School in Bracknell.
Bailey graduated from St Hilda's College, Oxford in 2008, with a Bachelor of Arts in Modern History and Politics.[6] She has served as National Chair of Labour Students and Women's Officer of the National Union of Students (NUS).[7] As a member of the NUS, Bailey created the Vote for Students pledge and published the first national study into harassment and abuse suffered by women students.[7]
Political career
[edit]Bailey previously contested the Reading West constituency in 2017 but was unsuccessful.[8][9][10]
Bailey was elected as Member of Parliament for Reading West and Mid Berkshire at the 2024 general election with 35% of the vote.[11]
Personal life
[edit]Bailey is lesbian, and has a wife and children.[12]
