No need to add text on Assemblies of God USA vs. Church of God in Christ racial tension history. Keep on respective denomination articles.
[edit]{{Admin help}} Lead should not be cluttered by information that should stay in the history section nor should it use racially charged language as added by User:TheLionHasSeen. Factual information on racial tensions between the Assemblies of God USA and Church of God in Christ should stay on their respective denominational articles because it is more of AG USA/COGIC's history than Chi Alpha's history. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chi_Alpha&type=revision&diff=1108334693&oldid . No need to add text on Assemblies of God USA vs. Church of God in Christ racial tension history. Keep on respective denomination articles. 66.44.115.210 (talk) 05:08, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- Cluttering the lead would include every single piece of information from the article, not merely a single sentence which can be backed up in the history section; if information can only be found in the lead, it shouldn't exist on the article. Writing "Chi Alpha is sponsored by the Assemblies of God USA, a Pentecostal denomination established by white ministers after separating from African-American leadership within the Church of God in Christ in 1914" as well cannot be argued as racially-charged language, especially when the proper citation methods have been employed. That's akin to those seemingly affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention attempting to erase the foundational history of their organization on Wikipedia, etc. and crying foul. - TheLionHasSeen (talk) 14:05, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- AGAIN, racial tensions between the Assemblies of God USA and Church of God in Christ should stay on their respective denominational articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.44.114.72 (talk) 17:15, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
Please provide discussion, rather then blatantly arguing back and forth, and switching IP addresses. That never ends well for anyone on Wikipedia. I will escalate this if need be. TheLionHasSeen (talk) 19:27, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- Please, Please stop. None of this is necessary. It's a lot more accurate to say "The Assemblies of God with which Chi Alpha is associated with is a Finished Work Pentecostal denomination established after separating from a historically African American and theologically different Holiness Pentecostal denomination known as the Church of God in Christ in 1914". 129.174.240.247 (talk) 14:23, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Moved the text in question to the history section where it belongs rather than out of place and over emphasized in the lead. This is a great compromise. 129.174.240.247 (talk) 14:33, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

- Discussion was not provided since September, rather continuing revisions on part of the IP addresses, all of which are associated by edit history and behavior with the infamous User:Hoaeter. Also, that so-called accuracy is just wordiness of unnecessary intent, similar to the same actions as User:Hoaeter when topic-banned from P'ent'ay and other Horn of Africa related articles. - TheLionHasSeen (talk) 15:22, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Too much AG history in content
[edit]The history and controversies of AG has no relevance to Chi Alpha. It is too much to have it in the lead and in the history section. Anybody interested in AG history and its controversies can read it on the Assemblies of God USA page. Tinihere (talk) 14:18, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- I agree. Jax MN (talk) 22:47, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
History
[edit]This is being posted here because @TheLionHasSeen included my edit as needing consensus. The current second paragraph of the history section does not make sense:
After Ashcroft's newsletter publications, it soon became apparent that a newsletter by itself was inadequate, and so in 1953 Dr. J. Calvin Holsinger chartered the first Assemblies of God student group at Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University) in Springfield, Missouri where the Assemblies of God headquarters is located; the Assemblies of God USA and its World Assemblies of God Fellowship were originally established in Arkansas upon separating from the historically African-American Church of God in Christ in 1914 in disagreement with episcopal governance and other controversies pertaining to race relations in the United States. The movement inspired and sponsored by Assemblies of God quickly spread to other campuses. For example, the first Chi Alpha to own property was the UC Berkeley chapter, which purchased a house next to campus in 1964.
1. The Assemblies of God is already the World Assemblies of God Fellowship. This is redundant. 2. The first sentence has two independent clauses. The second clause implies that the Assemblies of God USA owns Assemblies of God. This is inaccurate because AGUSA does not own WAGF and WAGF was established in 1989.

This is the history of Chi Alpha. History of AG is not relevant here. It can be found in the AG Wiki page. Also, the last sentence needs a premise on how it became a movement. This sentence may link it to it:
Holsinger, as editor of Campus Ambassador Magazine in 1954 wrote, “College provides a setting where you can encourage and strengthen qualities of idealism, faith, and spiritual hunger in interaction with other campus Christians.”[1]https://www.amazon.com/Growing-Student-Movement-Development-Ministries/dp/B096HQN5WB The AG Executive Presbytery granted permission to engage a full-time Chi Alpha representative in 1963. - I would be just fine with removing any mention of the 1914 split and Church of God in Christ.Naraht (talk) 23:26, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- I see what you are presenting here, @Tinihere. TheLionHasSeen (talk) 02:19, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
- I saw @TheLionHasSeen edit on the page including the note:
- The Assemblies of God USA and its World Assemblies of God Fellowship were originally established in Arkansas upon separating from the historically African-American Church of God in Christ in 1914 in disagreement with episcopal governance and other controversies pertaining to race relations in the United States.
- This is still misleading because it presents that 1. AGUSA owns WAGF which is inaccurate. WAGF is a fellowship of all AG denominations worldwide. 2. That both AGUSA and WAGF both separated from COGIC in 1914. WAGF was founded only in 1989.
- If you must insert this note, i suggest to take out the WAGF from the sentence. Tinihere (talk) 02:38, 6 March 2025 (UTC)
- It doesn't state that currently. - TheLionHasSeen (talk) 02:51, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
Delete AG History in the Lead and History
[edit]WP:CON is needed to delete the history and controversies of AG from the lead and in the history section. It has no relevance to Chi Alpha. Anybody interested in AG history and its controversies can read it on the Assemblies of God USA page. Tinihere (talk) 23:33, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
