Contradiction
[edit]I don't know anything about football, but how come the article says that he is both currently playing for a club, and that he will join them in a week or so? J Milburn 14:10, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks, I thought that would be it, but I didn't want to touch it. J Milburn 14:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I'll review this article shortly. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 17:37, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Here are the issues I found:
- "However, a year later" the however probably isn't needed.
- "Boyd was handed his debut" sounds iffy; perhaps just "Boyd made his debut"
- What does feature mean? I presume that means a starting role, but I could be wrong, so link for those who don't really know footy terms.
- "scoring a brace" Also not sure what this means; link or reword.
- Be careful about using words like "impressive" or stuff of that nature; unless the source uses those kinds of words, avoid them. Example is "His fine form continued, scoring four goals.." Four goals is certainly great, but the adjective aren't necessary; the reader can probably figure out that on their own.
- "Due to his impressive form," as noted above, this can be cut.
- "Boyd was named in the England C team" to the
- "Although this caused a degree of controversy," this could be added onto slightly. as it reads now, no way of knowing who found it controversial or why until after i read the ref. Only a little bit needs adding though since nothing came of it.
I'll put the article on hold and pass when the issues are fixed. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 05:10, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Style of Play section
[edit]This section seems to be too long compared to some articles of top players such as Carlos Tevez and Virgil van Dijk who are more famous worldwide than George Boyd. Some of this content in the section was added after this became a good article 10 years ago. This article needs a review to see what should stay and what should be removed or located elsewhere as I would not think this would pass as a good article in this day and age. Thanks, Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:28, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Iggy the Swan: you've made a very valid point with this. I would say that we should remove the final paragraph altogether. It's a bit meaningless and with his professional career seemingly over soon, at aged 35, I don't think we need to include info about parts of his game that Boyd thinks he needs to improve on. I'd also remove everything from the penultimate paragraph after the sentence "This resulted in Boyd being described as the Premier League's "most industrious" player, as well as being praised for his high fitness levels." Rupert1904 (talk) 02:44, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Iggy the Swan: I've removed what I suggested to do so. Please remove more as well. Rupert1904 (talk) 02:29, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, decent points made above. Although I don't know where I sit with the idea that "top players" should have more detail than, say, a Football League player just because they are "more famous". But as you both say, in this instance it was far too long and also very outdated. I have given the whole article a trim and then a revamp too. The infamous style of play section too. Grandfather's birthplace
[edit]According to this Wikipedia article, George Boyd was called up to Scotland's B team after "obtaining documentary proof that his maternal grandfather was born in Glasgow." However, when reviewing the references, both from BBC Sport and written in 2009, there is a contradiction. The one from April 30 states that his grandfather was born in Glasglow ("Peterborough winger George Boyd is set for a call up to Scotland's B squad after obtaining proof his maternal grandfather was born in Glasgow"), but the one from May 6 states that his grandfather was born in Motherwell ("Peterborough winger Boyd, from Chatham in Kent, is eligible through his Motherwell-born grandfather.") Other sources I could find reaffirm that his grandfather was born in Motherwell, such as The Scotsman (https://www.scotsman.com/regions/george-boyd-scotland-recall-excites-white-pele-1584494, "His grandfather, who was born in Motherwell and infused Boyd with a passion for Scotland, won’t be able to attend..."), Daily Record (Scotland) (https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/scotlands-tartan-pele-george-boyd-1021530, "Eligible through his Motherwell-born grandad, Richard, the 23-year-old from Chatham in Kent, will pull...") and The Daily Telegraph (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/scotland/5287739/Andy-Webster-and-George-Boyd-give-Scotland-reasons-to-be-cheerful.html, "George Boyd answered the critics who have carped that his connection to the Tartan Army – a grandfather from Motherwell – was too insubstantial.") George Boyd has also said in multiple interviews that his grandfather is from Motherwell, such as in an interview with The Herald (Glasglow) (https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12388421.Boyd_apos_s_rise_from_sweetie_shop_to_Fizzy_Pop_league/, "'My granddad is a big Rangers fan,' he said. 'He is from Motherwell but stays in London.'") It seems to me that this claim that his grandfather was born in Glasgow was an error made by the BBC in the April article and later corrected in the May article.
