Notes
[edit]It is interesting that much of the land in this area that is inhabitted is done so through long term leases. After the lease is up the land reverts to the national lakeshore. There are some sites, I believe in the Beverly Shores area where restoration of the original dwellings is being allowed. This area has much historic value and was written about in a book by Jim Murrow called "IMAGES OF AMERICA: BEVERLY SHORES A SUBURBAN DUNES RESORT".
Is the Mount Baldy sinkhole problem of interest? http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-mount-baldy-at-indiana-dunes-to-remain-closed-through-summer-20140424,0,7928302.story — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.200.128.42 (talk) 22:51, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
-Mt Baldy could be of interest because that section of the Dunes is currently closed (and will remain so for safety I imagine) as a result of the death there last year.--Ombase (talk) 18:54, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]Based on what is identified in the Wiki standards for quality, this article may be a B-Class or possibly a GA class. Not having been involved for very long, a review by another individual that can point out missing items, or errors in format or substance would be a great assistance.(Chris Light (talk) 21:20, 15 April 2009 (UTC))
- One issue is that the National Park logo is getting in the way of the index. Could somebody fix that? 199.3.212.178 (talk) 22:11, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- I think the article is about ready to be submitted at WP:GAN. You will there probably be asked to provide some additional referencing, see WP:Citations for an idea of what they will be looking for. Additionally, they may ask for the table of contents to be shortened and some of the smaller sections to be merged, see WP:Sections#Section size guidelines. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 03:38, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Improvements to reaching FA status
[edit]This article should be able to become FA qualified with an organized approach. Below is an outline of material needed to reach that level. Much of the work has been done. The topic order is different than is currently the case. It will need to be change to improve readability. Generally, the details should be in associated articles, not this article, unless the topic is park specific, i.e., trails. The article should not be considered completed until the linked articles are completed. Suggestions, changes, additions, deletions to this outline are requested. - This comment was added by a IP registereds to the National Park Service and the mentioned "outline" is simply a copy of the current table of contents. While any article can become a featured article with enough work, I don't think this comment was helpful to that effort. Rmhermen (talk) 16:07, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, slip of the cursor before the changes above were entered. Chris Light (talk) 17:19, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
- My comments to improve the article
- You'll want to go through WP:GAN first, then WP:FAC.
- Describe the species, but the fact there was a BioBlitz last year is not really important.
- There should not be eleven subarticles just for the lists of species, which are not very notable. Try to merge most of them.
- Merge Chronology of the Indiana Dunes into History of the Indiana Dunes. Most of the info is already there.
- The history section can be expanding, using WP:Summary style.
- In the short subsections about the historic and natural areas, put the link in the first sentence, not the main article template.
- Weather and Safety: give info specific to the lakeshore, not generic warnings about swimming.
- The volunteers do not seem notable.
- Remove everything in the see also that is linked already in the article or should be.
- A more consistent and logical section order would be History, Geology, Flora and Fauna, Natural areas, Historic areas, Recreation. Combine the similar recreation and activities sections.
- Areas that need more references are Activities, invasive species, history, and festivals.
You done a fantastic job improving and expanding article so far, but it still has a little bit to go. Reywas92Talk 20:57, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Your locator map for the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore has a red dot placed in the state of Pennsylvania. The Indiana Dunes is in Indiana, at the southern tip of Lake Michigan. Fixed. |

Nathan Woessner
[edit]"Events in 2013"? 🤨 This articles elides right over Nathan Woessner being buried in sand for four hours. Maybe details should be included in the article if there's potential for people to fall into said sinkholes so that people know to be careful, even if there are signs posted at the park, it could be useful for people to know about that risk for other places. 🤷 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.11.165.99 (talk) 16:45, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
