Maryam 19: 12–14 (Kitāb Yaḥyā instead of Torah)

[edit]

In Maryam 19: 12–14, it is not agreed that the scripture being referred to is the Torah and instead a Book of John the Baptist (Arabic: كتاب يحيى, Kitāb Yaḥyā), is a scripture that may be alluded to and is mentioned in Islamic holy books#Book of John the Baptist article. Yahya as

[edit]

It is alarming that no one has mentioned that the reality of yahya as was due to him calling to the worship of one God and not this story of him warning about some marriage this is from the Jewish Christian tradition 80.192.80.155 (talk) 18:11, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yahya stands for long live!

[edit]

If one analyses the verses of Sura Maryam (19), without further interpretations, one will find that there is no mention of Yahya (AS) dying before the Qur'an. That the day he dies will be salaam, just as the day he was born. The prayer of his father, was answered. The special name of long living was granted. As his father, Zakariya, was helper of Maryam, Yahya is to aid her son, Isa (AS). There is no mention in the Ahadith of his death, either. But that Yahya is with Isa (AS) in the mi'raaj of the prophet Muhammed.

The story of Yahya and Isa is so parallel, so clear and even the salaam on the day they were born and die and come back alive again. The tenses are the same. The day he will (yamuutu) or I will die (amuutu)!

Where is the real source for the death of Yahya? How was the du'a answered by getting his son murdered without salaam and without the purpose of aiding Son of Mary? How can we repeat about Yahya's death even if the Qur'an says nothing of it? Yahya mean long live, and if Isa (AS) is alive while he used the same salaam the day he dies, Yahya will also die on a day of peace or salaam, not by murder.

If Isa (AS) will return, then who are the two with him? And is it not Idris (Ilyas) (AS) another who has not died? Yahya is alive until he returns with Isa and both die in day of salaam/peace. Allah knows best. JmO369 (talk) 23:05, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Muslim belief about John the Baptist.

[edit]

Muslim don’t believe John the Baptist was a forerunner for Jesus, that’s a Christian belief. Matronymicusage (talk) 02:42, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 22 December 2024

[edit]

John the Baptist in IslamYahya ibn Zakariya – He has a name in Arabic and it should be used. Nobody knows him by "John the Baptist" in Islam. I would argue that "John the Baptist in Islam" violates WP:NPOV Abo Yemen 12:06, 17 December 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). • Oppose. Per WP:CONSUB, this article should match the main article title. We don't have separate articles on real people under different names because of different traditions. Srnec (talk) 03:18, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: The main article title is Islam. What this person is called in the Christian religious tradition is worth mentioning in the article, but is not a sensible identification of the subject in the described context. AFAIK, he is not called "John the Baptist" in Islam, so the current title is about a topic that simply does not exist; there is no "John the Baptist" in Islam. AFAIK, baptism is not something done in Islam, and Muslims don't call him John and don't believe he was a baptizer, and they would presumably object to making "the Baptist" (especially with a capital letter) part of the fundamental identification of who Yahya ibn Zakariya was. Wikipedia should not present other religions through a Christian lens. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:42, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Does this reasoning apply to all the articles at Template:Prophets in the Quran? It was rejected most recently at Talk:Lot in Islam#Requested move 15 February 2023. The article John the Baptist is not supposed to be written from a Christian point of view. The lead of that article mentions his Arabic name. The title of the article accords with WP:POVNAME. Srnec (talk) 15:46, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The issues involved with Talk:Lot in Islam#Requested move 15 February 2023 seem different. I see nothing absurd in the name "Lot", unlike "the Baptist" in this case. Parenthetical disambiguation was also proposed for that article and is not proposed here, and that was a significant part of the discussion. "Yahya ibn Zakariya" is much farther from "John the Baptist" than "Lut" from "Lot". Here the difference is more than mere translation. Moreover, I would probably also support renaming for other topics in Template:Prophets in the Quran in cases where it is clear that the name of some other prophet of Islam that is used by Muslims writing in English is substantially different from the name used in the title of the Wikipedia article about that prophet in the specific context of Islam. — BarrelProof (talk) 18:18, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, John the Baptist is his english name so use WP:USEENGLISH. John and Yahya ibn Zakariya are the same person, so the correct name would be, John the Baptist in Islam, as more people are likely to know who John the Baptist is than to know him by his Arabic name. Changing the name would be like changing Jesus in Islam to Īsā ibn Maryam. In both these cases the english version is much more recognizable to english speakers.
