Nemrut vs Nemrout

[edit]

As far as I know, proper transliteration of the name to English is Nemrout, because both Armenian "ու" and Turkish "u" sounds must be written "ou" in English in order to be pronounced right. Because Nemrut could be pronounced like [nemrat] which is wrong. That's why Armenian names Անուշ[Anush] or Լուսինե[Lusine] translated to English like Anoush and Lousine. It seems to be Nemrut in all modern English sources (and is Nemrud or Nimrud in some older ones), so it should probably be Nemrut here since this is the English-language Wikipedia. But I wonder if the last letter is pronounced "t" or "d" locally.

Geological history

[edit]

The info box had a different last "eruption date" from the text. The info box had no reference, the text did, so I changed the info box to 1597. Any idea where the 1692 date came from? The article referred to the 'fourth geological period.' I've not come across this term, but I think it refers to 'quaternary' - in keeping with the geoligical history of the area. For some reason I'm currently unable to get hold of the paper at the moment (I should have access) so I can't check it myself. 130.209.6.40 (talk) 13:13, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
