Women in Technology

[edit]

Is this section really needed, may I ask? The main point of the section stems around a joke Elon made on Twitter which had a controversial reaction, which is an incredibly common occurrence. Even so, the title is rather odd, implying that Musk explicitly has a "view" on Women in Technology. If the section was to remain, the main article for Musk may be better suited for it. PrecariousWorlds (talk) 18:29, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After the test of time, "TITS" indeed seems to have been a joke. At least, it has not translated into an apparent plan for an actual school by any name.
The section doesn't state any of the subject's views, and as written is currently written is functionally a WP:SOAPBOX for aggregating miscellaneous criticisms. Foonix0 (talk) 03:25, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Being a joke doesn't negatively impact its dueness. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 06:21, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2024 United Kingdom riots.

[edit]

During the 2024 United Kingdom riots, Elon Musk posted on X/Twitter that Civil war in Britain was inevitable and sided with the far right protestors. Pikachu3408 (talk) 22:16, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Political parties and the US in general RE: Bernie Sanders Tweet

[edit]

The final paragraph in this section does not seem to indicate any specific views of political parties or the US that Elon Musk might hold. None of the cited articles discuss his views to any extent. The paragraph:

In November 2021, Musk was criticized after mocking US Senator Bernie Sanders on Twitter: Sanders had posted a message on Twitter saying "We must demand that the extremely wealthy pay their fair share. Period." and Musk had replied: "I keep forgetting that you're still alive."

Additionally, the context for Elon Musk's tweet was him having already scheduled the sale of billions of dollars worth of Tesla stock. This is speculated by the cited articles as having been done in order to pay an income tax liability of billions of dollars.

While his tweet might certainly indicate a view he holds of a statement made by a politician, or even his view of an individual politician personally, it's not at all clear that his tweet demonstrates any specific view about a political party or the US in general. Race and white nationalism

[edit]

The paragraph here is blatantly false and even mis-quotes the original wording:

In February 2023, following racist comments from cartoonist Scott Adams in which he described Black people as a hate group and encouraged racial segregation, Musk accused the media of being racist against Whites and Asians and agreed with a tweet saying that "Adams' comments weren't good" but that there was "an element of truth to it".

Elon Musk agreed to a comment that was in response to Musk's own reply, not to Adams's original tweet:

Elon Musk: "For a *very* long time, US media was racist against non-white people, now they’re racist against whites & Asians. Same thing happened with elite colleges & high schools in America. Maybe they can try not being racist."

Chris Ferguson: "Adams' comments weren't good. But there's an element of truth to this...it's complicated. Mainly we've leaned into identity with predictable results, and power today is complicated. We were on the right path with colorblindness and need to return to it."

Elon Musk: "Exactly"

If you read the original tweets, it's quite obvious that the word "this" as Ferguson used it was referring to the sentiment expressed by Musk in his comment. The sentiment expressed by Musk wasn't that black people are a hate group, or that racial segregation should be encouraged. The sentiment expressed by Musk in his comment was that institutions being racist towards Asian people and white people might be factor in the fact that nearly half of black people in the referenced poll think that being white isn't okay. Saremmo (talk) 22:18, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should this recent X post on his views on WP be added to the article?

[edit]

He made an attack on Wikipedia, claiming it to be controlled by far-left activists. Is this worthy of inclusion? https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1849639215199650279 Félix An (talk) 08:40, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As far as media reporting about Musk's statements tend to go, this one does not seem to be widely reported by major outlets. So I'm not sure it meets the threshold for significance. It is also restating a view that is already well covered here without adding any additional nuance. However, the view contained in the statement its self is categorically something that would go on this page. Foonix0 (talk) 09:11, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I made this passerby edit adding both his tweet and a NDTV World source referencing it, just to be safe. I believe NDTV's reliable after looking through some latest discussions on it. I argue this comment's unique compared to his past "criticisms" by specifically calling it as handled by far-leftists.
And I should add my personal opinion on this; he hates us bad. Looking at the wide reception of his tweet there may be another level threatening this website. I'm not sure if there's a relevant discussion somewhere, but regardless I don't think donations or word-of-mouth are gonna cut it to protect WP and the WMF's purpose. Elon Musk anti-woke anti-muslim islamophobia memes

[edit]

Elon Musk is regularly sharing a meme that is against Islam.(Middle East Eye) Humza Yousaf, a politician who has faced racism and Islamophobia, called Musk a "race baiter" for sharing the post. QalasQalas (talk) 20:20, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Glancing at your userpage, maybe you're taking this too personally? I hope it doesn't lead to a COI, that's all. At least you're providing some decent links.
As for FMSky, I see you're currently engaging in a bit of an edit conflict. You reverted this 282-byte info three times now. I get it's wedged into the lede pretty roughly, but it looks quite sufficient for the Israel–Hamas war? Or maybe something else about race. I haven't seen any sources about Musk's Islamophobia specifically. Do you see any use for the links QalasQalas provided? Carlinal (talk) 17:22, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's a number of problems with just cramping this into the lead. 1. Its a one-time weakly sourced occurence, 2. the statement doesnt even line up with what the source says, 3. its not discussed anywhere outside of the lead (see WP:LEADFOLLOWSBODY, 4. the lack of other sources covering this incident suggests that it is undue for the lead (maybe even the article as a whole) -- FMSky (talk) 17:25, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well I agree that the lede thing is unpolished. But can we make a proper paragraph out of the MEE and BBC sources? Carlinal (talk) 17:32, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, I think I'll post a draft paragraph here and see how it goes. Don't count on it to be super quick, I have a few other things to do. Carlinal (talk) 17:39, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
...FMSky, y'know, you should've told me about WP:FART and WP:NOTNEWS long before you reverted my addition. Please work on your communication and cooperation more. You shouldn't have to act so elusive. Carlinal (talk) 05:07, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, now you know about and and you still chose to ignore it and force irrlevant content into this article anyway --FMSky (talk) 16:38, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
At the very least, I made a reconsideration, not of ignorance, after my previous comment. Carlinal (talk) 21:22, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Where is the section on climate change?

[edit]

The lead mentions this as one of the major topics he's expressed views on, but it's barely addressed at all in the article. 186.73.32.208 (talk) 07:54, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment it's in bits and pieces scattered throughout the article. Consolidation into an "Environment" section might be a good idea, but there is some subject overlap with things like "Subsidies." Foonix0 (talk) 01:39, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The "salute" is not appropriate for this article.

[edit]

This article is Views of Elon Musk. It is about Elon Musk's views. The "salute" is not a view, it is a thing that happened. The topic is already covered on both Elon Musk and Nazi_salute#Elon_Musk_at_the_2025_Donald_Trump_presidential_inauguration and is being debated on both talk pages. We don't need 3 different pages covering the same topic, and we certainly don't need 3 different sets of talk discussion arguments about what parts of it to include and what not to include. So I've added a See Also to direct there (this seemed a good idea in regardless), and propose to remove it from this page for consolidation, as it does not go here. Foonix0 (talk) 22:24, 22 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. This whole section should be immediately reverted per WP:BRD so that anyone who wants to argue that an ambiguous gesticulation is notable and relevant enough to be included here can do so on the talk page. Also, this violates BLP because the clear connotation of putting this in an article on "views" is to suggest that Elon Musk "believes in" the Nazi ideology, without any evidence. Manuductive (talk) 22:25, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Generally agree, a salute, Nazi or not, isn't a view. There is also the child article Political activities of Elon Musk, where it certainly would be relevant (as attending a presidential inauguration is certainly a political activity). I'm going to boldy remove now based on this discussion. CNC (talk) 22:32, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
