Origin
[edit]This template came about from Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Linking#Linking_to_projectspace_in_articles. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 02:30, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- This seems reasonable but you added the template to a page that links to the probject page on purpose a few times. Have no problem if the wording is changed but let's not tag a page with this if you know the linkage is done onpurpose.--Moxy 🍁 02:50, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Moxy, don't create a WP:TALKFORK; the discussion is happening there. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 03:29, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- So don't talk about this template here at this templates talk page. Talk were ever makes you warm fuzzy.--Moxy 🍁 03:31, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
A few changes I've made
[edit]See Special:Diff/1289930887 and Special:Diff/1289931313. I've reworded the statement in the editnotice, since the essay, "Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a reliable source" has changed to "Wikipedia:Don't cite Wikipedia on Wikipedia". Overall, I think it is more clear of what it is saying. Justjourney (talk | contribs) 19:24, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
Styling
[edit]@Izno, I tend to find that editnotices without any styling almost universally get ignored. Would it be possible for you to make the styling dark mode-compatible rather than removing it? Sdkb talk 18:52, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- There is no way to provide the same styling as you did and make it dark mode compatible without employing TemplateStyles (see how). You are more than free to do that if you think this template deserves that. If not, I would suggest advocating for adjusting the default edit notice background, which of course carries its own drawbacks, some of which I'm sure you're aware, having previously advocated against the morass of talk page templates IIRC. Izno (talk) 19:04, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, while I might want some sort of default styling for editnotices, I don't think this is the place for that. I'm not familiar enough with TemplateStyles to be able to easily figure out to use it in this instance. The desired state is presumably to have the gradient appear as it was for light mode and to have a dark background with light text for dark mode. Would you be able to help show me how to do that? Sdkb talk 20:21, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- ... I also honestly don't think gradients have any place in a modern UI either. TemplateStyles isn't hard, take a shot at it and report back if something doesn't make sense. Izno (talk) 23:22, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

I'm afraid I've got some bad news... Sdkb talk 18:47, 24 May 2025 (UTC)- Okay, so I tried figuring out TemplateStyles, and ended up with this (CSS), which isn't working normally, let alone trying to add in the night mode compatibility. What am I doing wrong? Sdkb talk 19:03, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
