[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or website, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:13, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am happy to amend my username, I named it AKS Marketing previously as I am a Digital Marketing Officer for the AKS Marketing Team - I simply wanted to highlight that this was amended by AKS themselves. I am sorry that this breached Wikipedia's advertising guidelines, but I can assure you there is not financial gain from amending this wikipedia page or being named AKS Marketing. The new proposed name hopefully highlights my error and that i am just trying to keep the page updated from a school perspective, I appreciate this may be best to assist in removing this ban - Please could this be reviewed asap as I need to perform these amends for work

Duplicate request. Only one open request is needed at a time. 331dot (talk) 19:18, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose in some ways your proposed name is slightly less promotional than your current one, but given that you are here to edit AKS Lytham, that would still be not only promotional but also clearly referring to a collective entity. You need to choose a name that relates to you as an individual, not to a collective entity and also not to a function or role. The name does not need to reveal your real name, but must be personal to you. Examples of unacceptable names include "Marketing team @ AKS", "AKS digital marketing officer", etc. Examples of acceptable ones would be "Jill at AKS", "198352 AKS", etc.
You also need to address in your appeal each of four points enumerated in the block notice, not just the user name one. --DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:48, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DoubleGrazing, thank you for your quick reply.1) I will receive NO compensation or payment for the amends made to any Wikipedia page. 2) I am now aware of my mistakes and how this came across as a collective entity that may have been editing for promotional purposes. I can assure you that this is individual contribution and I simply just want to ensure that the AKS Lytham page is up to date. 3) I am looking to add information to the Wikipedia page for AKS Lytham and improve the reliability and accuracy of the information. I have also been improving the page in areas that had previously been flagged. There was a lack of referencing and I am looking to improve this. 4) My new proposed username is 'Jaero13'. I hope this is acceptable as it is an individual making these amends, and is now unrelated to AKS or the school. On another note, if my ban is (hopefully) revoked, please can I reinstate the amends I made to the AKS Lytham page - All of this is accurate information and is being done simply for the improvement of the wiki page. Thank you for your time.

Decline reason:

That's fine as a new username. You gravely misunderstand the paid editing policy. It does not require specific payment for contributions or specific instructions to edit(otherwise every paid editor would deny being specifically paid to edit, making the policy meaningless). As you are employed by AKS, your salary makes you a paid editor and as such the Terms of Use require you to make the formal paid editing disclosure. Furthermore, if you work in marketing, editing Wikipedia would clearly fall within your job duties(even if you aren't "on the clock" when you edit, which we have no way to know). Please read the conflict of interest policy and tell us what will change about how you contribute, as well as if there are any edits you might make as a general contributor that are unrelated to your conflict of interest. Usually, we want people in your position to edit in other areas first, to show us they understand relevant policies, but you can attempt to convince us now that you understand. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 19:25, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, thank you for your reply. 331dot, you are correct, I think I had misunderstood the paid editing disclosure policy. However, I have read and understood the policies you linked and they have been very helpful. Please see my block appeal answers below.

1) I am an employee of United Learning Trust the group in which AKS Lytham is part of. I work specifically for AKS Lytham as part of their marketing and development team and therefore earn a salary for the work I perform. As part of my role as a Digital Marketing Officer I am required to ensure all of the School's online presence is accurate, and up to date - this includes Wikipedia. I have been tasked with updating the Wikipedia page. The AKS Lytham Wikipedia page has had a lot of content added with no references as well as some inaccurate content. My intention is to update this and add more relevant information about the school. Due to the nature of the school, this isn't with an intention to promote the school on the AKS Wikipedia page, it is simply to ensure that the portrayal of the school is accurate and the information is available should individuals wish to educate themselves on AKS Lytham via Wikipedia. Please see my Paid-contribution disclosure below;

2) I am now even more aware of my mistakes, the confusion caused, the lack of prior knowledge of the policies Wikipedia has in place and the disclosures I needed to make. The position remains that I simply just want to ensure that the AKS Lytham page is up to date, however I now understand, that due to this being a task in my role at the school, this could definitely be seen as a conflict of interest, promotional edits, and as mentioned required a paid-contribution disclosure. Please see section 3 for further information on how I intend to ensure I am not in breach of any Wikipedia policies or conflict of interest issues.

3) I am looking to add information to the Wikipedia page for AKS Lytham and improve the reliability and accuracy of the information. I have also been improving the page in areas that had previously been flagged. There was a lack of referencing and I am looking to improve this. Having read the policy pages, I do not believe that minor edits like spelling errors, references or ensuring areas of the page link to other relevant (non affiliated) Wikipedia pages is a conflict of interest. Therefore I will make these amends to the page directly and I believe this will fall under my amends as a general contributor. However, any major changes, or addition sections I wish to add, I will ensure that this is discussed and requested on the AKS Lytham talk page. I am more than happy to work with editors and administrators that know the Wikipedia platform a lot better than myself. I am willing to learn and improve my content by working with others. Therefore by suggesting these amends on the talk page, I hope that someone independent from the school can review and update the AKS Lytham page and therefore will not be creating any conflict of interest.

4) As previously approved by 331dot my new proposed username is 'Jaero13'.

As previously mentioned if my ban is revoked, please can I ask that admin review the previous amends made to the AKS Lytham page - All of this is accurate information and is being done simply for the improvement of the Wikipedia page. By going through a review process and now that I have disclosed the Paid-contribution I hope that this does not breach any policies. I am more than happy to provide any further information or make amends to improve the previous amends.

Thank you again for your time.

Beyond the username and various WP:COI issues, which an administrator will evaluate, the substance of those edits really ought to be addressed as well. Statements such as With key messaging around supporting students to pursue their passions, achieve their ambitions and change their worlds for the better, the education is holistic, providing a broad curriculum, and an extremely wide cocurricular offering or just using WP:PEACOCK terms like "eminent" are quite unencyclopedic, doubly so when presented in wikivoice (and this isn't the only example). There are some poorly sourced claims. Does AKS Lytham have a notably strong alumni following? Did Audrey Howard attend this school? The claim that 78% of A level grades were A*-B seems better substantiated, though someone would have to search through all 52 issues since we're only told that the Sunday Times said it in "2024." Cited information is the main course of Wikipedia, not the side dish or a garnish. We're primarily interested in what third-party, reliable sources, independent of the subject, have to say about the subject, not what the subject wishes to say about themselves. WP:PRIMARY sources must be used for limited ends and judiciously. Good luck on your editing here! CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 11:37, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CoffeeCrumbs, Thank you for your reply. Yes I agree, more referencing is needing and is something that I was in the process of improving - The page has fundamentally had way too few references (Three references - two of which are from the AKS site alone). I am simply trying to improve this, and whilst I appreciate there has been some concerns about COI and paid-contribution (and I hope these are now addressed), I am struggling with why improvements to the authenticity, usability and accuracy of the page is portraying negatively.
Absolutely agree that I am new here and need to use best practices and this does require some learning. All of the above examples are quote from the AKS Lytham site, that for one could be referenced, but also I planned to seek further references to back up this information, therefore would not be something being said about themselves. I was banned (due to my 'AKS Marketing' username) before I was able to finish all of the amends to the page so this is not a finished product. I agree that some of these previous edit need reviewing and that is why I have requested that I can work with an admin, potentially in the AKS Lytham talk space, to improve the page.
Thank you for your advice and support. I will definitely take it all onboard and hopefully I can get editing soon. AKS Marketing (talk) 12:13, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
