ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Samuel of Escaleta moved to draftspace

Thank you @HitroMilanese. I've added several more sources to the article which I hope show notability. I submitted the draft article about Samuel of Escaleta, but it was immediately rejected by @Shadow311 for not being written in the formal tone of an encyclopedia and not having a neutral point of view. I thought that the fact that the bulk of the article is from an entry in The Jewish Encyclopedia seems to show both notability and neutrality (and encyclopediability). Samuel of Escaleta is mentioned by name many times in Minchat Kenaot, which is a record of one of the biggest theological disputes in the 13th-century Jewish world.
Can you please advise on whether you think the article is salvageable. If not, I'll delete it, because I can't find any more sources. Commontater (talk) 16:06, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Its salvageable, just it was not written neutrally. I suggest just removing Non-neutral parts or rephrasing it to be in a neutral way. Shadow311 (talk) 16:10, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I went through the article of Draft:Samuel Sulami making it more encyclopedic and adding a lot more information and context than was in the original Jewish Encyclopedia article. I also changed the name of the article to reflect the more common usage. I have resubmitted it. I hope you will now be able to approve it @Shadow311. Augustin Bader

Hi, Commontater, and thanks for creating the article on Augustin Bader. In the article's revision history, I noticed that your Edit Summary with the first edit did not comply with license requirements for the original source. No worries; we're all new at this at one time. So here's the page that will explain things and provide instructions: Help:Translation. Basically, the Edit Summary should have been: Content in this edit is translated from the existing German Wikipedia article at [[:de:Augustin Bader]]; see its history for attribution. I think it would be okay to add it now (without adding any content) versus not adding it at all. If you have any questions, etc., just ping me, OR, stop by the talkpage for the WikProject which supports translations from other language Wikipedias into EN-WP here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Intertranswiki. Thank you. I was not aware of those license requirements. Are they the same for translations from all Wikipedia languages? I will add the attribution now. Hi, and yes, same for all translations from some language Wikipedia into EN-WP, e.g., I noticed the same issue with your transltaion on the article, Ḥiyya bar Ami. Note, it's best to do the translation edits and the adding of new content edits as separate edits, and include appropriate/clarifying Edit Summaries with each edit. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:21, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have translated several Hebrew articles using the Wikipedia translation tool. I guess I assumed it would automatically add whatever tags needed editing. I wrote in my edit summaries "translated from the Hebrew article" but without the entire code you provided. I will know going forward. Thank you. I appreciate it.
