Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Chathuranga Abeysinghe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page CFA. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Sri Lanka Army page isn't a page for news everytime guns go missing

[edit]

DOn't add WP:NEWS for random incidents like guns going missing. The US Army page isn't spammed with every incident of weapons going missing like this 1 or this 2. Its not a collection of WP:ROUTINE news and adding the news everytime guns go missing isn't notable or relevant. -UtoD 06:30, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@UtoD, none of these cases have been highlighted by the president as a major issue to national security. Merline303 (talk) 11:46, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Which doesn't make it anymore WP:NOTNEWS. The history section of the SL army page is for an overview of its conflict history, not a dozen soldiers stealing guns and not a list of statements by the president. -UtoD 18:23, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. This article refers to the UN panel of experts report on war crimes and Sri Lanka Armed Forces page refers to the child sex ring scandal. Merline303 (talk) 03:14, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You do realise you are referring to the peacekeeping section right? Also are you claiming mentioning allegations of war crimes in a 30 year war is equivalent to a dozen soldiers stealing guns? That is clear case of WP:UNDUE and why random news shouldn't be spammed into the SLA history. The allegations of war crimes are part of the Sri Lankan Civil War which is the major military campaign of the Sri Lankan Army since it's founding and refers to overall allegations rather than individual incidents. You do see the difference from those and trying to turn the wikipage into a news board about every time a dozen or so soldiers steal some guns or president says something? The history is about military history, the news of a dozen soldiers stealing guns isn't. You can put it in Anura Kuamara Dissanayake page or something but tring to claim "the time when dozen soldiers stole some guns" is a major military deployment or campaign isn't going to fly. -UtoD 03:26, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@UtoD, you seem to be sharing your own opinions. The UN report refers to a single episode which is claimed to be significant, and the missing guns have been linked to the increase in gun crimes in the island and the President as the commander in chief has called it a threat to national security. If you feel a section on the Sri Lankan Army discipline issues and links to the underworld should be added like the peacekeeping section, lets add, there is a lot of content. I read WP:UNDUE it says that "all significant viewpoints" should be given and "minority views" should be avoided, multiple sources have been sited to show that and the President of the country staying that something is a threat to national security is no insignificant matter. Merline303 (talk) 04:03, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your entire argument is that WP:NOTNEWS should be ignored because the President said something. This is the SLA History not the "everything President said about the SLA". So if this is about President then it should be in his page where there is a national security section. It shouldn't be mentioned in the Sri Lanka Army page at all. We don't make such sections, see other military pages like the US Army or British Army. It's not a news board for every time the president comments on something. UtoD 04:15, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@UtoD, I don't think this is what's meant by WP:NOTNEWS. Given the media coverage and the fact that it is considered important for the President to also talk about it in public, this falls under Wikipedia:Notability (events) as a significant current event which WP:NOTNEWS states can be included. However, I disagree with you. There seem to be fair bit of content to make a section on discipline and corruption which appears not to be in the US Army or British Army, in fact these have their own articles. Going on your argument it's the same with others, war crimes by the US Army or British Army are not mentioned it, why is it mentioned in this page, so I don't think it's not in other pages is a valid argument. Merline303 (talk) 04:25, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@UtoD, can you please explain why this content should be moved to the President's page instead? Merline303 (talk) 04:30, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Because the war crime content was forced through by several editors who tried to forcefully create an entire war crime section. However we don't make such sections in Army pages but as pages like Israeli Defence Force do mention overall overview of war crimes as part of their wars with Palestinians so it was agreed to allow it to be similarly mentioned in the history. Also this "notable event" that is a major conflict in Sri Lankan military history you are claiming is an incident of a dozen soldiers stealing guns. Its kind of becomes ridiculous when you bring it to prespective. The Army page is an overview of its military history NOT a news board for everything President says or everytime a bunch of soldiers get arrested for something. According to yourself the only significance of the news is Anura Kumara said it as part of a national security policy. Thus then its more suitable it to be added under his policies of National Security section rather than the SLA. If you want you can make a section within Corruption in Sri Lanka to include the incident. I will not dispute any additions to those, only to that of the SLA page. -UtoD 04:34, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@UtoD, ok I read the talk pages for the articles you said and I can agree with you that this content doesn't fit here but in the President's page. I don't think it fits in the Corruption in Sri Lanka since this has been called a national security issue. Merline303 (talk) 14:09, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

GMOA controversies are already in the article

The content in the "controversy" section is already present in the History section. There is no need to repeat them. - UtoD 14:20, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
