British Spring College, Awka moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, British Spring College, Awka, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Control copyright icon Hello MikeJanetta! Your additions to Onitsha Stock Exchange have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:43, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]
Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public. You may instead email the Arbitration Committee at arbcom-en@wikimedia.org with your username and appeal.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

Advice r.e. referencing

[edit]

Hi @MikeJanetta, just some advice regarding referencing. We usually much prefer a few really strong sources - maybe a minimum of three - vs 20+ poor sources. You also don't need multiple citations for every single piece of information, and you can re-use references if they are supporting multiple pieces of information. qcne (talk) 11:17, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggestion! MikeJanetta (talk) 11:39, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

You submitted Draft:Regina Pacis Model Secondary School via the WP:AFC process. This is deeply, deeply concerning. That page was a blatant copyright violation, taking content from the school's official site without permission. You cannot do this. I want to be clear, this is a massive problem and you are placing the entire wikipedia project in jeopardy. Any other article you've submitted which contains content taken illicitly from an external site, you must immediately go and rescind the submission and request the draft article be deleted. Wikipedia cannot use such content. See WP:COPYRIGHT. This is more important than you working to improve any other drafts, this is more important than you submitting any other drafts. This must be the thing you work on now. If I see even one more instance of this, you'll be blocked indefinitely. Please read and make sure you thoroughly understand WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:FAIRUSE. Any other draft that contains content you didn't entirely write yourself, use Template:Db-g7 or Template:Db-g12 to get it deleted, noting that you violated copyright. --Yamla (talk) 11:47, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I do appreciate your concern. Going forward, I will ensure I have understood every aspect of copyright and fair use before submitting any draft! MikeJanetta (talk) 12:07, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I expect to see zero further edits except for deleting content you illicitly took from other sites, until this is completely cleaned up. --Yamla (talk) 12:10, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is not sufficient. We cannot allow the copyrighted content to exist even in the history. If the draft has copyrighted content, follow the instructions I gave (db-g7 or db-12) to get the draft deleted, then recreate it from scratch, in your own words. --Yamla (talk) 21:41, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you are not willing to expeditiously deal with your numerous copyright violations, I'll block you indefinitely. Please let me know one way or another. I'll give you 48 hours to respond. --Yamla (talk) 12:17, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  1. What do you want me to let you know in 48 hours?
  2. I don’t know about other editors, but I took time to create pages in my own words from scratch and credible sources, with no intention to violate any copyright. And when I use their exact wordings I put them in quote while citing the creator(s). Although, I found out that sometimes that there might be overlapping or error of omission.
  3. I am going through those drafts, and the ones with ‘copyrighted content’ will be deleted, but I am not sure I will have time to create them again. Working on 17 pages is no easy task, especially when 99% of the sentences were structured in my own wordings.
MikeJanetta (talk) 16:05, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is not the case that you put content you copied and pasted in quotes. At least, not in any of the pages I looked at. Nor were the pages anywhere close to 99% of your own wording, not that it would be acceptable even if they were. If this applies to all the pages you worked on, you need to tag all of them with Template:Db-g7 or Template:Db-g12 and I expect you to do so immediately. I do not need you to ever recreate those pages, only that you commit to doing so completely and entirely in your own words if you ever do. You seem to be significantly underestimating the seriousness here. I need you to commit to expeditiously cleaning up the copyright violations you've committed, across all of the accounts you've used. Not just removing the infringing sentences or paragraphs, deleting the articles. --Yamla (talk) 16:11, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Done, as per db-g7
  2. I have not had any copyrighted material used on any accounts I previously owned.
MikeJanetta (talk) 16:57, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So, to be absolutely completely clear, your claim is the following. I will find no other copyright violations in any other pages you have worked on. Is that accurate? --Yamla (talk) 18:11, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From the superficial checks, I couldn’t agree more. MikeJanetta (talk) 19:53, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Draft:Queen of the Rosary College article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text—which means allowing other people to modify it—then you must include on the external site this statement (or something similar): "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, and under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License".

Unblock request

[edit]

This user is asking that their block be reviewed:

MikeJanetta (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))

Request reason:

I am requesting to be unblocked for the following reason.

The statement that prompted Yamla to block me for copyright use was not subjected to any deeper motive and scrutiny by me. I said “from the superficial checks”.

Though Yamla gave me benefit of the doubt to clear any copyrighted material, I did the best I can to vet through the pages I was working on to remove the ones I could recognize.

When I found out that I was blocked I did not object it immediately because I defaulted the community’s rule. I have taken time to review the rules pertaining copyright use, and going forward I will pay utmost attention in that aspect. I look forward to your positive consideration. Thank you.

Notes:

  • In some cases, you may not in fact be blocked, or your block has already expired. Please check the list of active blocks. If no block is listed, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
  • Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.
Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, replace this template with the following, replacing "blocking administrator" with the name of the blocking admin:

{{Unblock on hold |1=blocking administrator |2= I am requesting to be unblocked for the following reason. I have taken time to review the rules pertaining copyright use, and going forward I will pay utmost attention in that aspect. I look forward to your positive consideration. Thank you. |3 = ~~~~}}

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following code, substituting {{subst:Decline reason here}} with a specific rationale. Leaving the decline reason unchanged will result in display of a default reason, explaining why the request was declined.

{{unblock reviewed |1= I am requesting to be unblocked for the following reason. If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following, substituting Accept reason here with your rationale:

Thank you. |accept = accept reason here ~~~~}}

@Yamla attention needed! MikeJanetta (talk) 16:16, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No. I will not be lifting your block. Copyright violation is very serious. You were given a chance. You blew it. Your actions placed the entire project in jeopardy and you've been incredibly rude. Don't ping me again. --Yamla (talk) 16:18, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
