New pages patrol newsletter
[edit]Hello Staticshakedown,

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

- Hello, I mostly see timelines of cities as a separate article and the timeline has not been maintained since 2017, but I added it back into it's own section. static shakedown ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ
November Articles for creation backlog drive
[edit]
Hello Staticshakedown:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Staticshakedown,

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

According to Estigarribia, "This probably makes Guarani the most widely spoken indigenous language in the Americas. Remember that here Guarani refers exclusively to Paraguayan Guarani. Quechua and Mayan are languages that are usually considered to have more than 6 or 7 million speakers, but that number is arrived at by collapsing many dialects that are actually not mutually intelligible." Your draft article, Draft:Belal Assaad
[edit]
Hello, Staticshakedown. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Belal Assaad".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}
, {{db-draft}}
, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Update: New Event-Organizer Tools for You on English Wikipedia!
[edit]Hello,
I hope you're doing well! As an event coordinator on English Wikipedia, I’m happy to share some news with you. You now have the event-organizer right! This gives you access to the CampaignEvents extension, a powerful set of tools to help you organize and promote events and WikiProjects more easily. With the CampaignEvents extension, you can:
- Manage event registration directly on English Wikipedia.
- Use the Invitation List tool to find potential participants for your events/WikiProjects
- Receive automatic promotion of your events via the Collaboration List
Learn more on mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents
Now that I have your attention, I’d also like to share some updates to the extension:
- The Collaboration List can now be transcluded, meaning you can easily embed it on other wiki pages to share event details with more people by adding {{Special:AllEvents}}. Learn more.
- Admins can now determine which namespaces are permitted for Event Registration on English Wikipedia, via Special:CommunityConfiguration. Right now, the Event namespace is permitted by default for Event Registration. However, other namespaces (such as Wikipedia, WikiProject, etc) can now be added as permitted namespaces by admins too. This can help other types of organized activities, such as WikiProjects, use Event Registration. For details, please visit: Permitted_namespaces
If you need help using these new tools, I’m here to support you. Feel free to reach out for guidance. You can also find some useful video guides on Commons.
We’re excited to see how you use these tools for WikiProjects or events! If you have any questions, please let me know.

- Yep, sorry about that. I found the text in a book by Brian Foerster but it appears he lifted it from the original source word for word. Doug Weller talk 13:31, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Nope, I can't find it in the original, but I do find it here.[1]
- By the way, I don't appreciate the personal attack. I've sure you've heard of good faith. I'm not exactly a newbie. Doug Weller talk 13:34, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- What personal attack? It is an abuse of the revert button to undo my edits when they are not vandalism. That is frustrating for me when it happens and also comes across as hostile to me editing. Sorry you felt that way and it was nothing personal. static shakedown ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ 13:36, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- I thought you were adding copyvio, right? And good faith still applies. But I'm still confused. I can't search the original pdf right now, but can convert it or find a searchable copy. The book i linked to is written after the text was entered. Doug Weller talk 13:38, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- OK, grabbed it from the Library, it's sourced but a bit misleading as the source says "Posnansky and Escalante suggested that the Tiwanaku used a unit of measurement called a luk'a, that is, an arm's length, or roughly 60 centimeters.28 Through all our measurements, we could not only not corroborate this hypothesis, but we were unable-until now-to detect a convincing unit of measurement, or module, from which to derive other measurements either as multiples or fractions of this module" which you wouldn't guess from reading our article. I think that needs to be fixed, do you? Doug Weller talk 13:43, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- I think the main confusion is that I just made stylistic changes to the article. (:p) There was one big section and I broke it down into subheadings and reordered it. Maybe as part of the reordering it, it seemed like I added a source but I didn't add anything that wasn't already there. It's possible that one of the pre-existing sources is misleading or a copyvio, in which case it can definitely be removed or edited. static shakedown ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ 13:53, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

John H. Thompson
[edit]Hello, @Staticshakedown. Thanks for your recent edits to John H. Thompson. I happened to see that you didn't include a citation for Mr. Thompson's alleged death on May 9. Under Wikipedia's policy for biographies of living persons, "All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be supported by an inline citation to a reliable, published source. Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—must be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." Further, it states that "[a]nyone born within the past 115 years (on or after 13 May 1910) is covered by this policy unless a reliable source has confirmed their death." I spent a little while searching myself, but I was unable to find an obituary or any other source for the death, so I've manually reverted your edits for now. Do you have a source you can provide for the death? Rockhead126 (talk) 18:31, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
