Hall–Héroult process

[edit]

Would you mind adding a cite to your edit on Hall–Héroult process? I would like to find out more. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 06:05, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of games with mutable rules has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unreferenced essay, fails WP:OR and WP:NOTDIR (Lists or repositories of loosely associated topics )

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Arabic text

Why does my Arabic text come out in traditional Naskh rather than modern print Naskh? It never did before. I find it makes Arabic text less legible.

A new system called ULS (for Universal Language Selector) has recently been deployed by the WMF, and I think this is almost certainly the cause. On an article with Arabic script, look by the entry "Languages" at the foot of the left-hand sidebar, and you will see a cog-wheel symbol. Click on that, and a dialogue box pops up with various language settings. I don't know in detail how it works, and five minutes search at places like WP:ULS and Help:ULS draws blank. If tinkering with that doesn't fix your problem, ask at WP:VPT. I am about to ask there where is the documentation for ULS. JohnCD (talk) 17:28, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Found it - see mw:Universal Language Selector and mw:Universal Language Selector/FAQ. JohnCD (talk) 17:56, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! This helped me restore Arabic text back to "normal". Mohamed CJ (talk) 01:09, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please do not add your unsourced analyses to articles, as you did with these edits to Hoboken, New Jersey. Opting in to VisualEditor

[edit]

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 100 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:24, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:3-panel diagram.PNG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Uncited additions to Starfish

[edit]

Hallo, I see that you have added quite a strong claim to the Starfish article to the effect that 2 other groups of Echinoderms are 'widely' used as food. To prove this, you will have to identify sources that specifically make this claim - it would not be sufficient to find one or two places or peoples that use them as food (that would be Original Research). However, all this is a bit academic as you have not provided any sources at all, which is not just WP:OR, it fails WP:Verifiability. I have therefore commented out your proposed text, awaiting suitable citations, which I suggest you put on the Starfish Talk page rather than in the article so they can be reviewed.

I note also that you have already been warned by other users for making uncited additions to other articles. This behaviour is deprecated here on Wikipedia; it reduces the quality of articles -- and Starfish is a Featured article, and has been extremely thoroughly reviewed -- and causes extra work to other editors to repair the damage. I do hope you will take care to find sources for all future additions you make to articles. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:21, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Postscript: I am astonished to discover you are a veteran editor - I thought by the warnings you have been receiving on this talk page that you were more or less a newbie. It really is essential for people with experience to take care when editing. We all get tired at times - best to take a break if so and maybe to try again later. A tag has been placed on Template:Infobox Moroccan Royalty styles requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Where are you getting the information for the specific township "honored" by each Exit Series release? I can't find it anywhere. Or are those locations just where the exit is physically located? --Fru1tbat (talk) 17:01, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's the physical location, except for Exit 9, where it's kinda obvious. Their site on the Exit Series does mention specific areas that are truly supposed to be "honored;" I put the physical location as a semi-placeholder (since they aren't wrong) until I had the time and energy to suss out how to best accurately include that information. Lockesdonkey (talk) 17:06, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok - for now I've reverted it (hit enter before I finished typing my edit summary) - I think having the physical location there as a "placeholder" is probably confusing, and I saw on the Exit Series site that certain areas were mentioned, but as there isn't a single prominent location called out for each beer in the series, it probably isn't worth including. --Fru1tbat (talk) 17:16, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Lockesdonkey. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Rutgers Journal of Law & Religion".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Rutgers Journal of Law & Religion}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 23:57, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Flamen Dialis

[edit]

I backed out your change specifying Caesar's age. We don't have any clear references that state his age for the office specifically, merely our inference for how old we think he must have been at the time. The consensus data of his birth in 100 BC is not definitive, it might have been as early as 102 BC. So we can't say that he was a particular age upon becoming Flamen Dialis. Regards, Tarl N. While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Mafia Commission Trial

[edit]

Hi. Any difference between Mafia Commission Trial and United States v. Salerno? Should they be merged? Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:58, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm not particularly up on this history (I just added the infobox because I saw the information was there and I was on a lunch break), but it seems to me that they are connected but separate. It's possible that United States v. Salerno was an appeal from an aspect of the trial. However, they are clearly separate; the Supreme Court case is strictly about a legal question of the permissibility of pretrial detention, while the Mafia Commission Trial case is about the criminal investigation and trial. They're sufficiently different they should be different articles, though if someone picks through the documents and shows that the pretrial detention question arose in the same litigation as the trial, they should link to each other and possibly be cross-referenced in the infobox. I'm just not really in the mood to go dig up the appellate history of the SCOTUS case in Westlaw and cross-reference it with newspaper articles right now. Thanks for the rational response. Sounds good. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 01:05, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edmund

[edit]

Thanks for the explanation for your edit. Template:Infobox saint says where to place the infobox, but I think as Edmund was known for being a saint more than for being a king of East Anglia, we have an example here of where the guidelines can be ignored. Also, if it's put lower down, the Saint infobox pushes an image down, an affect that does not occur if the box is positioned higher up. Amitchell125 (talk) 14:33, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lockesdonkey, I nominated Levantine Article for FAC. As you contributed to Egyptian Arabic in the past and given your knowledge of Arabic, I thought you could be interested in reviewing this nomination. Thanks for any help you can provide. A455bcd9 (talk) 08:28, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stephanie Cutter requests

[edit]

Hi Lockesdonkey, I noticed you made some edits to the Stephanie Cutter article. I was wondering if you'd be willing to take a look at the open edit requests I have on the Talk page. I think it would help clean up the article and remove some redundancy. I won't make any edits myself due to my COI. Please let me know! PrecisionChristian (talk) 17:13, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Katherine Hepburn's accent

[edit]

I read the article which deals with this accent, and, accordingly, I didn't understand whether this accent was chiefly British or American. Listening to Katherine Hepburn convinced me that this accent was predominantly British, to say nothing of Billie Burke. I'm a novice in phonetics, so could you help me with answering this question? adding more information and improvements to the Tony Blair article

[edit]

@Lockesdonkey There is a lack of both information and consistency in the main article for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair as it haven't been significantly expanded in recent times. I have asked some of my fellow editors on Wikipedia but some can't collaborate on improvement due to different fields of interest. The main problem I find is that there is a large absence and no mention any of the significant policies of Blair during his premiership like for example the introduction of the minimum wage, SureStart programme, tuition fees, granting of devolution to Scotland and Wales, council and housing reform, constitutional reforms, the environment, immigration and so on in "Policies" section of his article. In the "Prime Minister: 1997-2007" there should be information on the three general elections he contested and won as prime minister also a added information on the details and history of his cabinets. I would happily like to collaborate with you on this expansion of Blair's article on policy but unfortunately I have been tasked with improving the article on 1972 United Kingdom miners' strike for the following days to come so for that reason I want to ask and request you to add this information before my participation. Me and other editors seeking to improve articles on British politics and history will greatly appreciate your help in adding the aforementioned policy initiatives and actions.
