A lengthy welcome
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I've added a welcome message to the top of this page that gives a great deal of information about Wikipedia. I hope you find it useful.
Additionally, I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily in collaboration.
Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.
If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.
Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.
If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.
If you find yourself in a disagreement with another editor, it's best to discuss the matter on the relevant talk page.
I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal (talk) 03:49, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In your recent edit to Countdown (2019 film), you added links to an article which did not add content or meaning, or repeated the same link several times throughout the article. Please see Wikipedia's guideline on links to avoid overlinking. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 20:04, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Replaceable non-free use File:Jade Wang Founder of Sandstorm.jpeg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading File:Jade Wang Founder of Sandstorm.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука13 08:33, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Reiko Aylesworth, Actress.webp
[edit]
A tag has been placed on File:Reiko Aylesworth, Actress.webp requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whpq (talk) 04:47, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 28
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Maastricht Hours, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Illumination and Evangelists. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 19:55, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

[edit] Hello, I'm Adakiko. I noticed that in this edit to List of Eta Kappa Nu members, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 21:18, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Ronit Raphael
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Ronit Raphael requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Pollia (talk) 20:29, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
Ronit Raphael moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Ronit Raphael, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Orphaned non-free image File:Ronit Raphael.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading File:Ronit Raphael.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of non-free use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Johnj1995 (talk) 19:41, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
Hello, Masktapeisawesome
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username MPGuy2824, and I thank you for your contributions.
I wanted to let you know, however, that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Emil Elimelech, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. To prevent the deletion, please add a reference to the article. You may remove the deletion tag yourself once the article has at least one reliable source.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|MPGuy2824}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. Thanks!

Welcome, and thank you for contributing the page Kal Male to Wikipedia. While you have added the page to the English version of Wikipedia, the article is not in English. We invite you to translate it into English. It has been listed at Pages needing translation into English, but if it is not translated within two weeks, the article may be listed for deletion. Thank you. EatingCarBatteries (contributions, talk) 06:22, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for your contributions to Kal Male. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability, it has too many problems of language or grammar and the referencing is unclear and parts of the article still need to be translated into English.. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Articles written in the greatest number of languages
[edit]Thanks for your edit on Wikipedia:Wikipedia articles written in the greatest number of languages. That was amazing. How'd you do that? If there's a program to make that update automatically, then we should run it regularly. - Burner89751654 (talk) 16:26, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- I used a Python script that I made. I have a file "articles.csv" with all of the articles and their category and subcategory. The script that runs through each article, sees how many languages each article is in, and then formats it all into a wikitable like the one that appears in "Wikipedia:Wikipedia articles written in the greatest number of languages".
- Edit as of May 26, 2025: I previously had the code here, but I've decided to move it to the Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia articles written in the greatest number of languages Talk page.
- I updated my algorithm I've made for Wikipedia articles written in the greatest number of languages and put the updated version in it's talk page. The newer algorithm is both way faster and fixes some errors. Masktapeisawesome (talk) 02:33, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- I assume that putting the article names in quotation marks let it handle articles with commas. And I don't follow all the coding (I don't know python), but it looks like the upshot is that now if we link to a redirect (like Drums plural), this new code can get the number of translations for the underlying article (Drum). Right? Excellent, if so. It's probably better that way. Although when the old code couldn't do that, it actually did have a side benefit. It helped identify which entries were redirects, so we could replace them with direct links. We don't really need to replace the redirects. But it's cool that we have the option. Maybe Wikipedia already had a program to identify which links are redirects, but I've never seen one.
- In any case, there are a few other changes that might be good. Would you change it so that it sorts first in reverse order by translation count, then subsorts (in regular order) by category, then subcategory, then article name? I find that most useful. Also, someone on the talk page recently requested that we change the table so that the article name column is on the left, then the number of languages, then the category, then subcategory. That's fine with me, and if anyone's going to make that change, then we might as well do it now, while you're working on it. They also suggested we add a column with each entry's rank, but I think that's a bad idea, since it'd be a pain to maintain as the rankings change. You could incorporate it into your code, but it would still be a pain for people just updating a single entry without using your code.
- Also, now that we can update all the records easily, we might as well get rid of the "last updated" column. We can just put a single note at the top of the article with when it was last updated, and a reference to the code on the talk page to update it.
- Thanks again for your help with this. If you want to run it every month, that'd be great. Although the translation counts don't change very quickly. Once a year is probably good enough. - Burner89751654 (talk) 15:24, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- I updated the Wikipedia page and the code for the algorithm according to your suggestions. Masktapeisawesome (talk) 23:04, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

- It looks like the sorting and column order is working well. Although I still think the rankings will be too hard for most editors to maintain. It looks like someone has already messed them up, since you updated them yesterday. Someone added a record for Warsaw, with 240 languages. That should've bumped the Portuguese language, with 239 languages, from rank 236 down to rank 237. But they didn't update it. - Burner89751654 (talk) 01:59, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- People are constantly adding records to the table, so make sure to update your code to include them before you run it. I edited the code on the talk page to mention that. Although I'm not sure whether each record in your code needs to be on a separate line, or if they can just be separated by spaces. It looks like when you typed in the code, they were on separate lines, but Wikipedia displays them as just separated by spaces. - Burner89751654 (talk) 04:32, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

Request reason:
Sorry that it took so long to respond. I truthfully don't check my talk page or notifications that often. I didn't realize how many of my articles were deleted or draft-spaced. Anyway, I will admit that I did use machine translation to translate all of those articles that have been moved to draft space or deleted. I know it's against the rules, and I am ashamed that I ever brought myself to break them. To be fair, I did check (by translating from language X into English and then English into language X and back again) that the translations were accurate, but still, rules exist for a reason, and it was not fair for me to break them. Additionally, I should have also fixed all of my citation errors. Citations have always been a weak spot for me, and I thought to myself, "there are Wikipedia editors who dedicate all their editing to fixing citation errors", let me focus on what I'm good at, and they focus and what their good at. However, I now realize that my logic was wrong and damaging; if I cause a problem, I have to fix it, simple as that. Additionally, I should have checked that all URLs were working. I foolishly thought that if the citation was valid in another language, I didn't need to check it for any problems. I was wrong. In the future, I promise to fix my mistake. I promise to only translate articles from languages that I know (Hebrew and Russian) and always check that the citations are working and are properly formatted. I will also check my notifications more often so I can communicate with other Wikipedians faster and fix problems Wikipedians have detected in my work. I hope that the administrators choose to reinstate my editing privileges. I promise to learn from mistakes and do better in the future.Masktapeisawesome (talk) 19:32, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
