Information icon Hello, I'm Ainlina. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Matt Shea seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Sourced and relevant negative content about politicians should stay, I think WP:NPOV does not preclude that being included. Thanks, Ainlina(box)? 21:32, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm SounderBruce. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you unlinked one or more redlinks from Willis Tucker. Often redlinks can be helpful, so we don't remove them just because they are red. They help improve Wikipedia by attracting editors to create needed articles.

In addition, clicking on the "What links here" special link (in the Wikipedia Toolbox at left) on a missing article shows how many—and which—articles depend on that article being created. This can help prioritize article creation. Redlinks are useful! Please only remove a redlink if you are pretty sure that it is to a non-notable topic and not likely ever to be created. Thanks! Important Notice

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Larry Crouse, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page George Orr. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:30, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from 2016 Gambian presidential election into 2021 Gambian presidential election. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 13:51, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Thomas, I noticed that you reverted my edit on List of countries and dependencies by population. Your edit summary gives me the impression that you did not read the discussion on that matter on the talk page of that article, where we evaluated in detail what the Template:UN Population does, what source lies at its base, and why it uses the range of numbers that it does. I will try to give you a short summary why I believe this source is superior to the one that you reverted to. The old source is from 2014, by the Ethiopian Statistics Agency, making a number of projections for a large range of future years, and the number picked was the projection for 2020. In itself that is a good source, and I would accept it as long as no more recent or more accurate source is available. But the above template provides just that. The source is from 2019, therefore 5 years newer than the CSA source, and it also provides a range of figures, going back to old historic numbers, and going through each of the last 20 years, and making projections up to 2020 (btw, the 2020 projection of the UN for Ethiopia is about 114 million, according to the UN source). Now, the makers of the template have decided to not use the 2020 projection, but the figure of 2018, because this is not a future projection, but an estimate of the known situation in the past. As such, I believe that figure has a higher weight as a source than a 2014 crystal ball of what the future 5 years from then might bring - and indeed it appears as if that old CSA number fell quite short from how the situation evolved in reality. I therefore kindly ask you to re-evaluate your revert, and if you cannot do so, I would like to hear your reasons why, best by participating in that discussion on the talk page of the list. Succeeded by

[edit]

FYI, "succeeded by" doesn't mean who is currently in session. Every article would have to be updated on a regular basis if that was the case. What it means is, which person replaced him in the next relevant election. Think about it like this... which album followed Metallica's Black album from 1991? The correct answer is Load from 1996 - it will always be Load from 1996. Yes there are other albums that were later released, but they didn't follow the eponymous black album; Load did. Load succeeds the black album. No other album can make that claim. Leitmotiv (talk) 19:59, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So Matt Shea is out of office and is succeeded by Rob Chase. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 20:04, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Summaries

[edit]

Hello again! It appears you've made a habit out of not including a summary to your edits. Remember, per H:FIES, it is Wikipedia's policy to "always provide an edit summary". As it states in the first paragraph, this will help people understand your edits and they will be less likely to revert you. This means less edit warring in general and less time wasted. Like your edit on Matt Shea, you replaced his successor without a summary. Because there already was a successor in place prior to your edit, it appeared as if you were editing wantonly. Thanks for understanding. I look forward to seeing you become great asset to Wikipedia! Leitmotiv (talk) 00:27, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've got a draft for this that hasn't been touched in a while; I was going to write the article and nominate it for DYK. Political hooks can't run if it's less than 30 days before an election, so if you don't say anything, I'm gonna write it myself in the next couple of days. But since you already made a draft, I wanted to give you a chance to move it into mainspace before scooping you.... best, jp×g 15:01, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Thanks! ― Tartan357 Talk 22:43, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I will provide edit summaries. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 03:02, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"As of" and CURRENTYEAR macro

[edit]

Please *STOP* making edits like this one [1] to political pages. That is, do not use {{CURRENTYEAR}} macros in "as of" statements. You are adding statements that will become incorrect as they age, which is a violation of Wikipedia's accuracy guidelines and manual of style. See the following: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Words_to_watch#Relative_time_references and Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Current

And from the "as of" template, Template:As_of#Usage_guidelines: "Using ... variables such as {{As of|{{CURRENTYEAR}}}} is a relative time reference and the equivalent to using "currently", which is generally against the precise language guideline."

Also, I've noted all of these edits you're doing of this type (and you seem to be the only editor doing them) are missing edit summaries. 71.62.227.79 (talk) 08:13, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you're going to replace "collapse top", make sure you also replace "collapse bottom"

[edit]

At 2020 United States House of Representatives elections in Texas and a handful of similar articles, you replaced {{collapse top}} with table markup but left {{collapse bottom}} in place. Please revisit those articles and use table closing markup to finish your work. I did the Texas article for you. It looks like all of the articles in which you "hid hypothetical polling" in this list of contributions need the same fix. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:39, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You are also removing <noinclude>...</noinclude> tags, which causes the hypothetical polling, along with the errors that you are introducing, to appear at Statewide opinion polling for the 2020 United States presidential election. Please stop removing those noinclude tags. This is becoming disruptive. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:51, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thomascampbell123, I noticed that you recently edited the PVI rating of the 6th to exclude the fact that the PVI shown is applicable 2023 onwards, as currently the district is non-existent. I think it would be good if we can include the pre-redistricting & post-redistricting PVIs to all districts, by adding (until 2023) & (from 2023) respectively. What are your thoughts? Thanks! ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 08:08, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The PVI is from a combination of the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. Although the district will not exist until January 2023, the PVI is still from 2020. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 15:25, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nate Nehring moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Nate Nehring, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 23:48, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:2024 Georgia elections indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Sources used for Pierce County Executive

[edit]

Can you confirm whether you have access to the newspaper articles used in your expansion of Pierce County Executive? I checked the Times archive for those dates and neither article exists. SounderBruce 00:33, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't yet been able to find the archive; please can you find appropriate articles to cite for this article. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 00:37, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Then don't create fake sources. It's actively hurting the reliability of articles and is not appropriate behavior. SounderBruce 02:01, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sorry. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 02:02, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Reagan Dunn, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. You were informed in April, 2021, that ourcampaigns is not an acceptable source (see its entry at WP:RSPS). Do not use that website as a source for information in Wikipedia articles. Please study WP:DOB. Schazjmd (talk) 16:01, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see so many articles that have our campaigns as a source from a while ago and no one has anything against them. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 16:13, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to remove it where you find it, and either tag the information that it sourced as needing a citation or remove the improperly sourced information. Schazjmd (talk) 17:00, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Hey, I noticed you added back in the sentence in the intro of Roland H. Hartley about his being the last socially conservative Republican governor of Washington. I haven't seen this kind of assessment on other politicians' pages since it seems hard to get right (for example, who would be "the last socially conservative Republican senator from Maine"?), and IMO it's hard to apply terms like "social conservative" and "social liberal" to pre-New Deal-era politicians. Abortion and affirmative action were not even conceived as political issues at the time Hartley was in government, and it's also not clear that Hartley's environmental stance was any different from that of other politicians in the West. I think just describing Hartley as "conservative" and leaving out trying to compare him to subsequent governors would make more sense. There are also a lot of pages that justify that label, e.g. [2] and [3]. What do you think? GlobeGores (talk page | user page) 01:48, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the only three Republican governors of Washington since Hartley were socially liberal based on many actions they did, such as affirmative action programs and abortion legalization. However, I agree with you that the American political parties were not as divided based on conservatism and liberalism prior to the Great Depression. Therefore, labeling Hartley as the last socially conservative Republican governor of Washington can be somewhat contradictory and false. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 01:54, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Does that mean you agree with deletion of that sentence? W.stanovsky (talk) 08:27, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree with deleting the sentence. Politics always change and one could make the argument that many of the social issues of today were not relevant when Hartley was governor. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 15:08, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Washington politicians' biographical info

[edit]

Hi, User:Thomascampbell123. I notice that you've added a number of biographical details that I couldn't find on a couple of my recent new articles about Washington politicians. I'm curious where you're finding this information; I can try and look it up myself. Also, in a perfect world these things would be cited, and none of the references I've included in the articles support the details you've added. (I don't think.) Anyway, thanks for the help! W.stanovsky (talk) 03:49, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've found these details on https://leg.wa.gov/History/Legislative/Documents/MembersOfLeg2019.pdf. It includes all legislators and session dates. Thomascampbell123 (talk) 03:59, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic! I’m thrilled to know about that resource. It answers some other questions I’ve had too, like about Belle Reeves’s representation of a 56th district that no longer exists (and has no presence on Wikipedia). Thanks for the link!
